OldRUSHfan
The IP fits just about inside a quarter [panel itself, not the backing part, zinc chromate green] Also, the 1:32 scale B-25 H arrived today, and THAT is a huge box also.....not as nice at interior detail as Tamiya, HK Models are pretty good, but not as nice as Tamiya kits! The instructions are DEFINITELY not as good as Tamiya, but I'll have no problem figgering them out if I take my time! Test fitting helps a bunch also! Small paint color section also, means more work for the builder...but I have all the colors I need even if they don't do the homework most other companies do.This is going to be another EXCELLENT MODEL! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/dancing_banana%20soccer.gif
New_World_Man
I would like to consider this as a possible hobby in the future. I have no technical experience though. Is it difficult to do? Are some easier than others and are some specifically labelled for beginners? I've always been a classic car buff so I would probably want to start with building classic car models.

Yes, if you pay attention at the store or online if you go that way, there are all levels of model building represented. I started out with 1/32 scale cars, [Pyro, no longer made] but they got up to 1/12th scale nowadays. Cars are generally easier, but can get complicated with Photo-etch parts, or resin parts that add detail, but can be harder to use, so start out with easier models if possible! And don't forget the glue and paints! These can get expensive, but if you watch out, $ can be minimized!
OldRUSHfan
Those Paint storage organizers arrived Yesterday, and I've assembled one already. Easy when a video comes with them but that was left out of my order, they have one on YouTube though!http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Model%20Stuff/One%20of%20two%20straight%20paint%20storage%20racks%20sm.jpgAnd like I said, if you buy from Back 2 Base-ix, they allow you to buy by the size of the paint bottle you use. Most of the major brands represented! It had non-slide 'feet' on it, so there's not a lot barring actually PUSHING it off a table to worry about. [better for ME LOL] K, gonna build the other one now! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Banana%20sword.gif

I've basically swiched into music making mode, where I create MIX CDs to play in the car when I'm out anti-HERMITing....I'm basically still on the seat belts, about to add them to the seat assembly...I've been thinking about it also....having to become more driving oriented lately when my main Credit union debit car was compromised yesterday [9-6-'16] so going mobile is more useful at this point....good reason to play my MIX CDs I just produced! Babycat
After the IP is done, then I move to the photo etch seat belts. Here is what they look like unpainted.... http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Model%20Stuff/Photo%20etch%20P-51%202%20cr%20med.jpg This is what the Photo etched sheet looks like for the 'seat belts' I have to paint it with primer and then the color it needs to be for accuracy....Photochemical machining (PCM), also known as photochemical milling or photo etching, is a chemical milling process used to fabricate sheet metal components using a photoresist and etchants to corrosively machine away selected areas. This process emerged in the 1960s as an offshoot of the printed circuit board industry. Photo etching can produce highly complex parts with very fine detail accurately and economically.- Wikipedia http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/cyclops%20banana.gif Amazing detail.

Dweezil
Love models!I buy blank little horse models, customise them by paint or some resculpting and painting, and then selling for profit. I suppose that doesn't qualify as a hobby, but I charge way less than some customisers. Its more the fun of it for me.
OldRUSHfan
Well, to ME, THAT IS A HOBBY!!! "DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO" as my BFF used to always say. Whatever makes YOU HAPPY! Don't let ANYONE tell you anything NEGATIVE about your HOBBY!!! Ignore nay-sayers. Their input is NOTHING. Even though you may admire the person, if they have anything NEGATIVE to say? Ignore them. In your case, they're WRONG. UP with your HOBBY, Dweezil! UP WITH YOU!!! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Joyful%20bouncing%20banana.gif

treeduck
I used to do Airfix ones when I was a kid. I wasn't very good at it though, I used to get the glue all over the plastic which seemed to melt it. So I had all these melted patches all over it!
JohnnyBlaze
This thread makes me think that I'd like to check out a model museum or gallery. That'd be pretty cool. And I think I prefer tanks and fighter planes over muscle cars and such.

And I think I prefer tanks and fighter planes over muscle cars and such. Go for it! I found that '55 Chevy Customizing Kit by Monogram on E-bay and purchased it! It had been partially built, and all the stuff was dutifully documented but I can UNBUILD a model as well as I can Build one! The one I built in the late '60s I didn't build in the Futuristic way with the bubble top, I built it hot rod style. I've decided this will be the futuristic way. it's supposedly candy apple red, but I'm doing it like I originally did in Silver[metal flake] and other details decided later! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Joyful%20bouncing%20banana.gif

Yes, it takes patience and skill as far as the usage of glues, paints and also care in handling small parts. You can do it, Ducky. I know you can....I'm clumsy in some ways, myself....not everyone can do everything, but that's a pretty poor excuse of someone who doesn't want it bad enough!

OldRUSHfan
Today, a BUNCH of stuff happened. I received a new X-acto cutting mat,[yes, I put some hot stuff on the one I bought in Feb. and it bent out of shape.] The new one is 18 in. x 24 in. and still 'self healing'. I also received a Monogram '58 T-bird customizing kit which has a bubble top with it! That's gonna be cool!http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Model%20Stuff/Monogram%2058%20T-Bird%20bubble%20top%20sm.jpg I also got an oldie I still have parts from of an AMT model of a '73 Mustang Stock Car racer. They package the models these days with so many extras...YUMMY! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Suave%20Banana.png Edited November 6, 2016 by OldRUSHfan
