For those who want to follow a good site for model afficianados, here it is. It's European based but fully ok for people who speak english. https://www.scalemates.com/

I'm on there, it shows my projects and such...I don't have any photo albums up yet....

The only time this's happened to me, was when I bought some Japanese made kits back in the eighties, that only printed their instructions in Japanese. I can't even find translations today!!!

Still waiting on info for the photo etched parts...I've found I have to do more research BEFORE i buy a SPECIFIC KIT, as regards the kit and the parts in it..... Got a NEW project, that is more or less DO IT NOW capable.....it's the North American P-51D Mustang, In 1:32 scale. Photo etch parts colored correctly, masks for the canopy, resin parts (wheels, cockpit pieces and seat) this is a MUCH MORE READY TO DO project....found a pic of someone who did this model in the pilot's version I'm doing....

My second P-51 picture book has arrived...but it is almost totally B&W pix...unit markings and such...it DID come with decals for one particular aircraft. in three scales, 1:72, 1:48 and 1:32 though. My craft knive with the snap off blade sections arrived as well as the 3 packs of 10 replacement blades. I have finally found a paint storage unit that will work with the three types of paint I use. Bought two of them, and the place that makes them is in Australia. They actually let you choose the size of the paint bottles circumference so they'll fit correctly..I've found out this week that not all sites do this. So I bought a unit that only fits smaller bottles, and is about useless to me.....well, this site, "Back 2 Base-ix" let's you choose the size of the hole that is in their organizer so your paints will fit. I use only three types of paint, Humbrol, Tamiya and Model Master paints. both enamel and Acrylic. Having learned my lesson, My research is more encompasing now.....I HATE wasting money....at least my brain still LEARNS from mistakes! YAY ME!!!!

(MOVE ALONG NOW..... NOTHING TO SEE HERE.......MOVE ALONG.....)

Engine and bulkhead behind engine, also contains the first SCREW I've ever used in a model!

On to the cockpit area Instrument panel first, a 3 part extravaganza!

There's the actually IP, a CLEAR part that gives the IP the look of glass instrument faces, and a decal behind the clear part that has the instrument faces printed on it! Pic after I'm done!

Did you finish the A-10?

Nope, I'm getting info on painting the Photo-etched parts in a manner that won't mess up the details on them from the site I'm a on in Europe...plus, I have to do some cutting on the plastic of the cockpit in order to finish that part correctly....got the paint to do the job, but trying not to mess anything up. Trumpeter Models, from China, apparently are famous for lack of detail in some areas of their models...That is who makes the A-10. There are lots of after-market parts that can correct the deficiancies, but I don't have the $ right now to invest.

....the clear part of the P=51 IP has some superglue smudges on it that I have to go buy some Acetate [nail polish remover] to wipe off and not mess THIS up!

I had to open IE to see these pictures.

You must have excellent eyesight for this delicate painstaking work.

A lot of patience too.

Nope. I have to wear glasses now, and my eyesight is getting slowly worse unfortunately, but they make wearable eyesight enhancers that I buy that allow me to see extremely well! And Patience IS a REQUIREMENT! I'm GOOD at THAT! Thanks, Lorraine!!!

Very Impressive!

Thanks, blueschica! And to your also , Mr. JD! Oh, I got the nail polish remover, so the IP should be viewable very soon!

To you folks, http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Banana%20World/Banana%20love.gif

After the IP is done, then I move to the photo etch seat belts. Here is what they look like unpainted....

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Model%20Stuff/Photo%20etch%20P-51%202%20cr%20med.jpg

This is what the Photo etched sheet looks like for the 'seat belts' I have to paint it with primer and then the color it needs to be for accuracy....

Photochemical machining (PCM), also known as photochemical milling or photo etching, is a chemical milling process used to fabricate sheet metal components using a photoresist and etchants to corrosively machine away selected areas. This process emerged in the 1960s as an offshoot of the printed circuit board industry. Photo etching can produce highly complex parts with very fine detail accurately and economically.- Wikipedia

Very impressive. I like the way you think. If you're going to do something, do it right! We need more thinking like that in today's world.

Well, I need to do MORE education. Turns out having acetone and being able to remove dried super-glue with it is a LEARNED ART. I don't know how yet to do it. Luckily, they had another IP for a later model of the plane, and I'm using that one. So far, all I have to do now is apply the decal of the instrument faces, let it dry, and I'll be able to photo it. Then it's the seat belts. I needed to put the quarter in THAT pic also, to show you all how TINY those parts are! That sheet is 2 &1/2 in. high, x 3 & 5/8 inch in width.....TINY parts! Luckily, easy to learn to work with! And a GREAT way to add details! Next month, start work on my Spray paint booth, so I can finish this and most of the other models that just need larger parts to be painted to finish them.....gonna clear them all out....I might even sell some....just to get rid of them [i need to do this BADLY!!!!]

Maybe I just need to hit some garage sales for book shelves and other display units......LOL

Ok. Here's where I'm at as far as the Acetone and IP clear part for the mid P-51 D model kit. I just cleaned a Smucker's jam glass bottle and put some acetone in the bottom, affixed a pair of cross action tweezers to hold the part flat, and they will set there for a few hours and I'll remove them to see if the Actone dissolved the super glue. If not I will repeat this and wait 24 hours. I have the newer model of IP ready to go, but would prefer to have the correct one, obviously.....

I also found a plane I never thought I would EVER find in 1:32 scale, a North American B-25 H ! This was the famous 'Mitchell' bomber, in it's earlier stages , B and C models, that bombed Tokyo early in the war! This B-25 H, was a later model developed for the Oceanic war in the Pacific, to quell the Japanese naval operations. The aircraft had the regular complement of this time of 10 .50 cal. machine guns, plus 4 .50's in the nose horizontally pointing ahead, and a .75 cal. T13E-1 cannon for detroying Japanese shipping, and for strafing land targets.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Aircraft/B-25H%20nose%20armament.jpg

I have one I built, but it was from the early '70s, and a misc. scale, and very cheaply done. Practically no detail inside, and very little outside! It got partially destroyed by a kitty, but it's fixable! This new one I found, has everything the other 1:32 scale planes I've bought recently, Photo-etch parts, masking sheets, great decals...etc. Wow!!! I'm HAPPYYYYYYY!!!

Ok, the part I put in the acetone melted....I thought I'd researched if acetone affetced plastic like that, but obviously I got it WRONG. So I finished the IP, with the newer version, and applied the decal on the back. it looks SUPER! hope I can get a decent pic of it!

OldRUSHfan: upon working on panel lines, re washes: do you use inks, oils, clay and/or enamel?

Eduard has, imo, the best photo-etch parts. What do you think?

:)

No, inks, oils. I do use modellers putty to fill in seams and such, and usually I prefer enamels, but acrylics are sometimes preferable...Eduard made the detail sheets for the A10 Warthog, and printed them with detailed stuff, and I'm searching for ways to paint over the printing and have it still show up.....that's what's holding up that model.
