HURRAH!!!! (one of my Paternal grandpa's favorite excalmations!) I'M GETTING THE 1/32 SCALE MODEL of the A-10 A WARTHOG by TRUMPETER! The single seat version, and next month I'm getting the two detail sets (both interior and exterior, of photo etched parts) for DOING IT UP GRANDLY!!! I'm also setting up my Spray paint booth to properly paint the thing!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/woohooyellow.gifhttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/YES-2.gifhttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/Frolicking.gifhttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/YES-1.gif Edited by OldRUSHfan

WOW!

Bought it yesterday, received it TODAY!!! The box is HUGE! 23 1/2in. x 17 3/4in. x 4 1/2 deep! This is going to be a HUGE MODEL...already comes with white metal landing gear (for sturdiness) ultra thin and well printed Decals,, some parts are clear for having a See-through type thing, but I'm doing the painting, and will create open hatches if I have to. Wow....biggest model I've ever attempted to build, for SURE! Here, if you want to see it, is an 'In Box' review of this model, and what was included by the buyer to complete it. The model doesn't get built in this video, just an inspection of the parts, instructions, etc.

I love building scale models. Haven't done it in years because honestly I feel a little stupid doing it. I'm too worried that people will think I'm weird, and as I'm reading this I realize how stupid it sounds!

I shouldn't worry. Nerding is the new black.

Embrace your weirdness. "Weird" people are really just interesting people, so please just be yourself :D

Right.

I promise pix of the build...

Love the workshop. A person has to have 'their' space.

Inspired by your passion and crackin' photos, I went looking for some models at the weekend. Found them, but they aren't so cheap and then there is the paint. The other factor preventing purchase was all the kids - not buying models, just shite with their Christmas money.

You're not kidding, are you! This model I just bought was list priced at $149.00 U.S. Since I am a REGULAR customer of Rider's Hobby since they still had their Ann Arbor Store, now located in Grand Rapids and Flint, Michigan, Gave me an EXCELLENT price on this, shop around, and you may find a deal or two on what you want. I went around to YouTube, and there are a BUNCH of kit reviews you can watch, and actual builds people do so you can see the techniques they use. TOO COOL! Rider's ships around the world, and has a LOT of U of Mich. alumni that still remember the excellence of their store there, http://www.riders.com/

They have an excellent staff, and each know their specific area almost TOO well, if that's possible! The model, guy, 'Q' is his moniker (way cool!) is up on all things model related in the Military section, paints, photo etch, resin and metal detailing, etc. They are my go-to place. they know me by name now....lol! I've learned that sometimes you have to go to the 'Horses mouth' so to speak. I had to go to the actual Eduards store, online, (they're in The Czech Republic) to find the detail package that I'm going to use with the Trumpeter A-10 model. The model already came with metal pieces, such as the pitot tube and Landing gear [for sturdiness] so that was taken care of.

Wot, no Tanks ?!?

Great thread ORF, Nerds of the model world unite !

made endless kits when I was younger - Airfix 'planes ( still remember the incredible 1:24 Stuka), Warships, but most of all WWII German armour. Had an itch I couldn't scratch a couple of years ago and bought Tamiya's awesome 1:25 Tiger I

Spent a good few happy hours building it, much to complete bewilderment of Mrs M

Never got round to finishing the paint properly so will wait for the next itch & buy an airbrush :D

I have 3 Tanks I started back in the '80s, all by Tamiya, The Panzerkampfwagen IV, Sturmpanzerwagen IV Brumbar and the Flakpanzerwagen IV, All are 'in progress' models still, and I took a class on detailing models with the Panzerkampfwagen IV, and learned how to make hinges for all the hatches and accsess doors, scratch build the engines, etc. and SOME DAY....lol As you can see, though, 1/32 Aircraft has become an obsession, and Odd aircraft in particular, I have a 1/48 scale model of perhaps the most a-typical aircraft design of the entire 2nd World War, The Blohm and Voss BV-141 seen here:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Model%20Stuff/Aircraft-BlohmundVossBV-141-10.jpg

Which was the plane in competition of the FW-189 (which appeared on the Led Zeppelin III cover)

I also build Custom cars, Trucks, Classic Movie Monster, and Space Craft..(star trek only so far). But I'm really into detailing everything I build nowadays....

I remember I used to be really into this when I was quite little. Nothing as awesome as what you've done only cheap little Airfix kits. I've probably lost them all now but I remember I had a Mesershmitt plane and three or four tanks and I think I've still got all the paint somewhere. You're models are great though :) must take Lots of time

Thanks, Folks! I've really only scratched the surface of detailing models, but it IS a fun way to 'wile away the hours'....probably the wrong use of that word, 'wile' [trickery, guile] but anyway, I just replaced my work mat, because I placed something HOT on it one time, and it warped. Now FLAT again!

Now for my newest Model....Diecast, that is....It's the Aston Martin DB 5 I bought last week. Now, you'll notice it isn't Silver. It's kinda Aluminum Blue. That was close enough for me. about $100 less close enough!

The Same type of car JB has kept forever....$100 more for actual silver paint? Not for THIS dude!

This is a really cool thread. Like a lot of "kids" in the 70's and 80's, I was obsessed with models for several years. I had a couple of high water marks for completion, including a Tamiya German Tiger Tank that I actually made a small landscape for, a covered bed pickup truck with a speed boat on a trailer, and a yellow Z28 Camaro.

13 years ago, I tried getting back into model building with a Cobra Mustang. I was working on it one night during a hurricane, and it was so relaxing, and so much fun.

But these days, my hobby passion lies with guitars, amps, and effects. But I still really appreciate a well done model, and get the twinge to try it all again.

That's why it's part of my 'Retirement Plan' ! That comment about the 'cheap Airfix' kits if a main reason my Dad didn't mind my interest, because he had to watch what was spent. There used to be a company in Detroit, Michigan, called PYRO that did a whole line of models that were cheap [cost-wise] and I did a lot of them, but only of older cars, '20's 30's '40s, '50s and alla that...but cheapness was a GOOD thing!

Just wait til RETIREMENT hits the scene...Like I did, you have a LOT MORE TIME for stuff! Maybe you could try it then!

I was also into this. I liked building tall ships. Rigging and all.

That's what a gentleman does on an ad for a bunch of Elder Living homes 'American House' or something like that, and I, for the first time finally had someone who had the same feeling I did about what to do with your time that appealed to you! LOL

Now. I've finally purchased the Photo-etched parts and extras to begin on that A 10 Warthog. Gettin' ready! LOL

Now. I have finally used my noggin to find what I needed to start my Fairchild-Republic A-10 A Warthog project! Here it is:

THIS will look COOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!

Yup, the Warthog is basically a gun with wings.

EXACTLY! One of the lead designers said it was basically designed around the GAU-8 Avenger weapon....I got hooked on this plane by watching a Smithsonian Channel Series, "AIRPOWER" They do a report on one specific aircraft per episode. I also bought a 1:48 V-22 OSPREY!!! I will be THRILLED when they come out with THAT plane in 1:32 scale!!! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/YES-2.gif

A company I worked for (Goodyear Aerospace) built the wheels and brakes for the A-10. Got to see an RTO test one time. AWESOME!

Yup! That test was probably in the show on Smithsonian Channel series! They do pretty in depth episodes! I record the shows to see if there is anything I can use to improve my detailing in the models....

I got my first Photo-Etched packet today, and it covers MOST of the stuff, Interior, exterior, weaponry, canopy masks, and 'remove before take off' flags. I'm waiting for detailing kits for the GAU-8 Avenger Main gun, and a resin Ejector seat. Checking on how soon the first package arrived, These two should arrive Wed, Thurs at latest....Found FREE HR pics of the cockpit area on the National Museum of The Air Force site, http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Home.aspx which are EXCELLENT reference pics! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/OldRUSHfan/Yay%20%20Woo-Hoo%20%20etc/YES-2.gif

OH KAY! Here's the set-up. These things are now in play. These are the Photo Etch plates I will be using to complete the cockpit area....

FYI- My phone is 5 3/16" in height. These plates are a few MICRONS thick stamped brass. Consider that I'm a CLUTZ, and more of one as I get older! I will keep you all 'in the loop' as I go along! :) :codger:
