Far Cry has a great intro.

Then its just OK.

The next four or five songs are WAAAAAAAY better!

And Spindrift is a song I used to hate. Now I find it to be immensely enjoyable!

No one gets through this plodding, tedious, turgid snoozefest without a fight (and usually enough caffeine to kill a lab rat)

There are several songs on that album that I don't care about but don't actually hate. There are a few I dislike (but don't reach hate levels), and 2-3 that I like or really like. I haven't listened to all of it straight through in maybe two years. It's not my worst Rush album but parts of it are trying to be.

My favorite line and it may be one of the top 5 couplets of Pearts career

Medication or meditation

A comfort or a promised reward

We should start a couplet thread. My favorite:

I feel the sense of possibilities

I feel the wrench of hard realities

Sooo much truth there.

Love this song.

Along with Far Cry, it was the other song I really liked a lot when the album first came out. It took me a handful of listens to warm up to everything else. Awesome work by Alex and the lyrics are just great. At the time S&A came out I remember saying I thought it was the best song they had done in over 20 years.

So yeah, I think pretty highly of this one.

Armor needs the tempo pushed a bit, or maybe different drum parts, because after the intro, something sounds off. That and the awkward, clunky sounding verses don't really work for me. But what do I know, I think Spindrift, and in particular, the "closer to you" part, is one of the strongest Rush songs.

This album has been growing on me lately

Same!

It was bottom three for me, alongside Rush and Fly By Night.

Both Snakes and FBN are much higher rated now haha!

Both Far Cry and A&S had me at first listen. Many times new material has to grow on me (some of CA, VT), but modern songs like those 2 off Snakes, Earthshine, and the CA title track were instant favorites.

It's true S&A has some clunkers on it for me that I doubt I will ever warm up to, but if you knew how much I hated the album when I first heard it, you could appreciate how far I've come.

Someone mentioned the sound. When I was listening to it yesterday, that struck me as well for some reason. Slightly muddled, but overall crisp and clear.

I wish they would have chose this over Far Cry for R40........Yet again.

Kicks ass.

Mick

But the whiners would shit bricks on how it plods along and would wreck the set list. I personally would've welcomed it but I can see how it wouldn't quite fit R40.

Rush music grows on you like a fungus the more you listen to it. :)

I think we have the name for their next album - Lactobacillus Rush

I changed it because I realized lactobacillus is technically a bacteria not a fungus. But still it could conquer the earth.
