Lifeson Gibson double neck

I'm sure it sounds wonderful.

But it's a Gibson guitar which means it's grossly overpriced. Add an artist's name and it's even more overpriced. I'll settle for a cheaper doubleneck and/or regular Les Paul and gut it myself to put on better gear for less the price and only a little personal handiwork.

There's another thread about this. I have a friend in England that ordered/bought one of these and it's quite expensive. Edited by EagleMoon

I think he's had three of those... one had a headstock snapped off at a gig when a speaker fell on it and one was given to Eric Johnson. The blurb on the Gibson site claims that it was used to record Something For Nothing, but other than live versions, I doubt that.

It also says it was used to record vapor trails which I found odd...

I remember reading somewhere that Lerxst used ~50 guitars during the recording of that album, so this isn't as surprising to me. He might have used it on Vapor Trail or How It Is, wherever a twelver was needed.

Wow, never knew that.

I thought it was funny how they listed it making it seem like vapor trails is a song.

I would love to buy this one, but first I need to learn to play at least one full song...

At least one song? I'd probably learn as many songs that require a double neck or 12 stringer to play many songs before thinking about buying this pricey guitar. I'm no guitarist, I'm a bassist, but more than that, I'd probably consider whether or not I'd play the thing on regular basis as a factor in buying any instrument for that matter.

I don't know why anyone would want one of these unless they were just buying it because Alex has one. They're kind of a dinosaur today.

Older EDS-1275s can be found for considerably less than $7300. Gibson made a Don Felder version and a Jimmy Page version as well. The Felder was cheaper and the Page was more expensive.

Also Ibanez "lawsuit" double necks are very close to these. I had one for a while but got rid of it because I wasn't crazy about how it was wired (before I got into doing it myself). It was also quite heavy and awkward. Now I have a Rickenbacker 360-12 that I use for electric 12 tones. I have had occasion to mount it on an Embrace stand to play while "wearing" other instruments for double neck type situations. Not quite as efficient, but effective. :)

One of these is (or was) on display in the Rush exhibit at the RRHOF.

Yep, along with I think one of Ged's roadworn Rickenbackers from the old days (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I also remember seeing a Snakes tour stage setlist, a Test for Echo tourbook, and some random odds and ends from Neil. Stopped at the RRHOF while on vacation at Cedar Point in 2013.

That's why it is surprising, to me. Someone prepared to use that many guitars to record an album would probably go to the trouble of using a dedicated (ie single-neck) 12-string guitar where needed.

I have heard from a few people that they where sound checking Vapor Trail on one of the recent tours (Time Machine I think) and he was playing the EDS for that.

I didn't catch How It Is on R40 but saw pictures of Al playing the PRS 12 as on the video but also a Ric 360-12 which I would have loved to have seen.

I think when Al goes on vacation he takes 50 guitars with him. :)

The fact that it was a gear porn tour made it that much better. Loved seeing all the different basses from Ged, and hearing the differences in tone on the live album.

I think the PRS 12 he used on How It Is was the prettiest guitar he played all night.

So...you'll pass on paying $20,000 for a knock-off of Frampton's classic '54?

Yeah, a parade of Les Pauls and J's with some very nice odds and ends mixed in. Plus Neil with 2 kits and real tubular bells. If you count all of the fake amps too it was an astounding display!

I've always liked his PRS tone too.

That headstock looks like it's been through a shredder.

I played a 1275 for a song back in the 90s and couldn't get it off quickly enough when the song was done. It was as heavy and comfortable yo play as a Buick.
