goose
Anybody catch the great San Antonio comeback tonight vs. OK City? Down 20 at one point, San Antonio held the lead for only 37 seconds the entire game. It's how you finish that matters!
goose
Super happy for the success Houston is having this season. Coach Mike D'Antoni's secret formula is a simple one: As much as possible, work the offense through your best player, in this case, James Harden. He's managed to do this while simultaneously giving Harden more time on the bench. D'Antoni's new strategy for the Rockets "puts the ball in Harden’s hands for roughly three more minutes per game, even as he plays nearly two fewer minutes overall." https://www.si.com/nba/2017/01/05/mike-dantoni-rockets-lakers-suns-james-harden-eric-gordon#

goose
Man...the Eastern Conference is coming down to the wire... http://www.nba.com/article/2017/04/11/what-we-learned-mondays-impact-playoff-pictureThe Pacers took care of business against the lottery-bound Sixers and strengthened their own playoff chances in the process. They could still find themselves out of the top eight, but it's a long shot. They would have to lose their finale AND see Chicago and Miami win to miss the postseason. Their most optimistic outlook? Finishing sixth if the Bucks beat Boston, and the Hawks lose to both Charlotte and Indiana this week. The Bulls were similarly business-like on Monday, beating Orlando by a whopping 47 points. They already have 41 losses, however, which opens up a couple roads out of the playoffs entirely. Here's the gist: if they win, they're in. If they win AND Indiana loses, Chicago climbs to seventh.Milwaukee's 89-79 win over the Hornets has the Bucks sniffing the fifth seed, but only if A) they win their finale at Boston and B) Atlanta loses BOTH of their last two games. If anything else happens, Milwaukee will be locked into sixth. The Clippers and Jazz remain in a deadlock for the fourth seed (and home court in the first round) with identical 50-31 records and one game remaining. Los Angeles, however, holds the tiebreaker. Utah needs to win its last contest (against the Spurs) and hope L.A. drops its final meeting with Sacramento.

goose
Portland looked good against Golden State today, but the Warriors played lock-down defense down the stretch to pull out the win. Draymond Green and Kevin Durant lived up to the team name.

goose
Kawhi Leonard had a postseason career-high 37 points and added 11 rebounds, and San Antonio beat the Memphis Grizzlies 96-82 on Monday night to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round series. Leonard finished 9 for 14 from the field and was 19 for 19 on free throws. Leonard attempted more free throws than Memphis had as a team, which infuriated Memphis coach Dave Fizdale. "...I'm not going to let them treat us that way. I know (Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has) got pedigree and I'm a young rookie, but they are not going to rook us. That's unacceptable, that was unprofessional. My guys dug in that game and earned the right to be in that game, and they did not even give us a chance.'' The stat-laden rant makes a pretty good case: http://www.commercia...refs/100590826/ “Zach Randolph, the most rugged guy in the game, had zero free throws," Fizdale said, his voice booming. “But somehow, Kawhi Leonard had 19 free throws. First half, we shot 19 shots in the paint and we had six free throws. They shot 11 times in the paint and they had 23 free throws. I'm not a numbers guy, but that doesn't seem to add up. Overall, 35 times we shot the ball in the paint. We had 15 free throws for the game. They shot 18 times in the paint and had 32 free throws. Kawhi shot more free throws than our whole team. Explain it to me.” Edited April 18, 2017 by goose

goose
Day 4 of the 2017 NBA playoffs is in the books, and the surprising Chicago Bulls are up 2-0 on the No. 1 seed Boston Celtics. It's the second time in NBA history an eight seed has gone up 2-0 on a one seed — and that's just one thing we learned on Tuesday. http://www.foxsports.com/nba/gallery/nba-playoffs-chicago-bulls-boston-celtics-toronto-raptors-rajon-rondo-serge-ibaka-los-angeles-clippers-041917

goose
Great, great game 3 between OKC & Houston tonight. Houston battled back from being ten down late to tie it up in the final minute. Just couldn't get it done in the end. Or could they...? OKC's Westbrook just missed his front-end free throw... 1pt game w/ 8 seconds to go... goose
Amazing game 4 between San Antonio and Memphis tonight. Memphis got the overtime win on a last-second shot by Gasol. And Golden State has just come back from down by 16 to go ahead by two in the third quarter. Some great playoff basketball!
