Tony R
Your post is appalling. Your comparisons are appalling. Above all else your misjudgement is egregious. There are no browny points for taking offence on behalf of someone else only derision. Grow up! Welcome to the club of the appalled. My comparisons are absolutely appropriate. We're talking about aging rock stars, the inevitability of things coming to an end, and planning. Those things don't all necessarily occur together, and blaming the drummer for not being able to firmly predict when he will be utterly unable to lift the sticks anymore, and being upset that the band dared to entertain the possibility of not doing big tours anymore is the epitome of a ridiculously excessive sense of entitlement on the part of any fan. I sincerely hope you're ready to back up your outrage by example and do physically demanding labor while solving mathematical problems simultaneously until you physically drop. And please give more than three months notice before that happens. Sanctimonious pratt.

HalfwayToGone
Really. And vilifying a guy who lost a wife and daughter whose lives he often missed out on while touring away. The man has a second chance. You're gonna give him crap for wanting to do it better this time, and for getting old and less physically resilient after 41 f-ing years of doing the stairmaster on stage for up to 3 hours at a time for months on end? Just because you like the music and paid to hear it? Newsflash--you paid for stuff that was already delivered. If "loyalty" somehow means that you get to demand that a person indefinitely commits to being an absentee father and husband, and impervious to the effects of time on one's physical condition, or that one is now obligated to do everything exactly the way you think it should be done, then please remind me never to be a loyal fan or to have any loyal fans. It's a frigging curse. And people wonder why "loyal fans" creep the guy out.

fraroc
They announced the tour in January and it ended August 1st. Not abrupt. Most people give 2 weeks notice when they retire! Wasting 2112 here, oh well. Need to set record straight. Tour announced late January, began early May, three months, easy math. Given work and summer vacation schedules mostly set when they announced final full tour, it was actually much less than three months notice since tix were selling out in Feb, weeks after tour announced. This made travel decisions and coordination with friends virtually impossible. Look at how Sabbath is doing it, much much much more notice, adding additional legs, and giving fans time to react and decide travel plans for such significant and life alterning decision. Neil, on the other hand, happy to show he is exercising his free will. Can't think of another band on their level bowing out so abruptly , outside of serious illness or death. Rush fans, thanks for your decades of support and loyalty. Have a nice life, signed your fave drummer. .Blaming Neil for being too old and injured to tour, and not giving you "adequate notice" (like there's any such thing) is like blaming Dimebag Darrell for not giving fans enough notice that he was going to be gunned down on stage. Are you seriously going to compare Neil not wanting to tour anymore to a man being f***ing BRUTALLY MURDERED on stage? No, it's NOT the same thing and it's NOT his f***ing fault that some psycho with delusional fantasies about Pantera decided to kill him and if you're going to imply that I or any other Rush fan who is dissapointed in Neil would be that shitty and say "Oh well, he should have seen it coming, it's really his fault he got killed." NO. NOT AT ALL. Edited November 20, 2015 by fraroc

JARG
Maybe it's because I think it is long overdue, but I'm not at all surprised Rush has called it quits (if indeed they have). Rather than my response being, "OMG, why didn't you tell us sooner", it's "Jesus, it took you long enough".

I got 4 shows that I enjoyed, and there are a million other great bands out there that I can see in smaller, better sounding, more personal venues anyway.
