Vapor Trail's production was actually good

"Vapor Trails" is to RUSH and "St. Anger" is to METALLICA.

PURE SHITE

I like both of those.

Wow...this forum is starting to turn me off, and it has nothing to do with the production values of Vapor Trails.

Me too.

Good. Bye.

I'll stick it out. ;)

If everyone leaves it'll just be Tony here beating himself up.

At least we'll be rid of the ladyboys.

Why do you continue to be insulting? I am not bothered as I am absolutely happy with myself but all the same, what, exactly, are you trying to achieve?

I don't mind that Tony is calling you (and others) out for creating needless drama on the board, but we could all do without the "ladyboy" stuff. Those insults are also needless.

I do apologise for the drama. After the funeral tomorrow, I promise you I will be different. I have been too highly strung lately and that has just...made me a mess.

But Tony R can get away with murder on this forum.

No, he can't. Which is why I just called him out, too. But there is a difference between what he does and what you and a few others have been doing -- Tony comes on strong, sometimes too strong, but it's usually in reaction to others who are acting up. But a little firm calling out goes a long way. Repeating it over and over and adding needless insults into it defeats the purpose.

Sorry to hear about the death in your life. Sincerely. As unfortunate as that situation is, it doesn't give you license to create drama here. If something in your real life is affecting you that bad that you need to make bad posts at people, then you should step away from the keyboard till life calms down a bit. Just because it's the internet and you're not face-to-face with us doesn't make it okay. Yeah, they're only posts on a message board, but that's all we have of each other here.

Nah I agree. I do understand my behaviour, I don't mind being called out when deserved. My issue was the constant rudeness regarding my opinion on VT.

VT is a very polarizing subject in the Rush world. The remix only added to that.

So because the subject matter is polarising, Tony R once again gets away with being nasty, unkind, and vulgar based on a cavaet?

If I started targeting members calling them names on a regular basis, boasting about being unkind, and totally raking others opinions across the coals, I know I wouldn't be treated like Tony R.

Forget me. Look to yourself. It's not about the "what" it's about the "why".

Critical thinking 101.

You make no sense. You got nasty over an opinion, and basically started knocking out gender/sexuality based insults towards me that have absolutely no basis in reality. How can that justify you for anything I have said or done?

I like VT. It means I identify myself as a member of the opposite sex, apparently. Or are you just a nasty playground bully who thinks it fun to pick on kids, and then blame imperfection as the reason to justify yourself?

No one is perfect, but for some reason it is your right, and qualified position, to comb through all the threads and pick out and target those who say, or believe things that contradict your view.

Nope. VT was just a means to an end.

Which is proving everything I have said about you to be true.

You look for invalid reasons to justify yourself as a bully.

Now, if you'll excuse me, what with all this steamy ladyboy sexy babble, I must retire to the gentlemen's necessarium, stock photo of Anthony R in hand, and a fistful of clotted cream in t'other.

Lord have mercy.

Yup, that was pretty much my reaction, tumescent, glowing. No hands though. They were busy. Busy hands.

Well, the original was unlistenable, but the songs were there. The Remix rescued it for me.

This thread is FINALLY headed in the right direction!

Hey, my 1980's editions of Horse & Hound are just not providing the ammo anymore. Nursey said I'm a dirty boy.

^ I love Tim Brown too! (And I'm a Browns fan, which is an f'in tragic state of affairs, at least the "New Browns" of the last fifteen years). Actually, used to love the old Madden Raiders, after the Browns. They (the Raiders, though without Madden) of course tore my heart out in '81 when Mike Davis intercepted Brian Sipe in the end zone to keep Cleveland from kicking a chip shot field goal to win the first round playoff game (after the Raiders had won the Wild Card game the week before). Raiders went on to beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl; Cleveland went on to lose three AFC c-ship games to Denver, the first two being more heart-rending tragedy for Cleveland fans. And since then it's been all down hill, which tells you what you need to know. And now I live in Baltimore, the new home of the old Browns, where they've won two Super Bowls. No Cleveland fan has ever labored under the delusion that life is remotely fair. Of course I could be a Syrian refugee and have a sucky football team, so I do try to keep a sense of perspective.

I know this is all exceedingly off-topic, but the topic had become so dull I couldn't help myself.

Back on-topic: Original VT production was wanting; remix helped but has problems of its own; we need a balanced mix between the two. And Segue, just keep being yourself; the problem with the world isn't that it has too much goofiness (and I mean goofy in a good way).

I would rather listen to Test For Echo five million times in a row than anything off of "Vapor Trails."

^ most depressing post

Depressing that he thinks TFE is that bad.

Musically great. Lyrically pathetic. Even the lyrics on VT are better than those of TFE.

Let's just throw these two albums out. Everything else works for me.

They should have got Terry Brown to produce VT though.

Can you imagine all the pointless internet bickering that would never have existed?

A sad loss for a lot of us.

Nothing as funny as a bunch of people slagging of another bunch of people because they don't hold the same view of something.

I laughed all day after reading this thread.

I am not easily amused.

Carry on comrades. Hold the red star high in hand.

You all should just stop all of this gibberish at once.

whatever happened to Rushgoober? I remember having a slight issue with him when i first joined the forums. That's about it, tho.

Last I saw, he & the wife were raising triplets (I think). That was a few years ago so I'm assuming THAT would keep him plenty busy

If I had triplets at the same age that he did I probably would have moved to another country by myself and assumed a new identity.

What is AOR music?

It stands for album oriented rock, but I'm not really sure what it means beyond bands focusing on albums rather than singles?

On the Led Zep dvds I have, there is a short interview with Robert Plant and he talks about that. He hated the fact that anyone would isolate a song from the album it was on and release it as a single. He said that an album is whole and is meant to be listened to that way. Those weren't his exact words but, in essence, that's what he meant.

Anyway, thank you for answering my question.

I just checked wikipedia, and apparently it's a term associated with radio programming. Something about giving deejays more freedom to pick tracks off albums that were not just singles - including some of the deeper cuts. It sure seems we've come back around to the hit single flavor of the week approach, though - "I used to like that Taylor Swift song but that was last week..."

Taylor Swift fans are actually pretty hardcore album fans. Same for Adele.

Rock radio used to be a lot less programmed and DJs had a lot more leeway in what they did. A good case in point is how rush got its start in Cleveland radio. They played working man as a bathroom break song and the rest is history. The concept of deep cuts came from this approach. Bands began making albums with the idea that they should be listened to as a whole and were not interested in chasing hit songs for pop radio. I've heard stations play album sides as well. Imagine turning on radio and having the DJ introduce 2112 and play the whole song (side 1). Like a lot of things, the Beatles seem to have started it which is a little ironic since they started as a band definitely looking for the huge pop singles. The 70s was where it peaked especially with bands like Zep and Sabbath. AOR bands for the most part made their money selling albums and touring and not in singles but bands like the Eagles were probably included in the category even though they did have hits.
