 Walt Disney

every Sunday night. Then bed time.

Yeah! :codger:

Double YEAH!! I loved The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. My parents would use it as punishment if I misbehaved, I got grounded from watching it.

Nightly Ritual: Once the last part of the TV show was over, we would beg and plead to be allowed to stay up for two more minutes, so we could see the previews for next week's episode.

We gotta see the scenes! Oh, can we see the scenes? PLEEEEEEASE......???

My game "platform" was an Atari 2600.

I rode my Schwinn Stingray to the furthest reaches of the neighborhood... no one minded.

My folks would sometimes leave me and my sister in the back seat of the Chevy Malibu while they picked up a few things in the store... no one minded.

We would play in a gravel pit with junk and have roman candle wars, play with rocket engines without using the rocket body, that kind of fun stuff.

...Yeah, had to walk to school in wind storms and snow. This was Anchorage, Alaska in the '70's. Deal with it.

Got in fights at school. Got a "swat" from the principal, and a spanking when I got home for creating a ruckus.

Going to Pizza Hut on Muldoon Rd. was a treat.

Dad would buy me firecrackers and M-80's. He taught me how to use a rifle.

That Pizza Hut,

Is now some Japanese type of restaurant.

Amazed the building is still there.

if it was cold or snowing or raining, we still walked to school. My parents didn't drive me around when the weather wasn't perfect

Me too. It never occurred to me to be asked to be driven to or picked up from anywhere.

Walked five long city blocks, four times a day, to and from school in all types of weather.

Anyone remember Miss Joan and Romper Room?

The Sandy Becker Show?

The Soupy Sales Show?

:codger:

I loved Soupy Sales; He was on after school where we lived. Such a funny guy!

That's when I watched him too - he came on either before or after The Match Game. He was very funny.

I would buy candy cigarettes and pretend to smoke yet I never smoked the real thing

Remember those? Now, that would be considered evil and probably get a kid expelled from school. :eyeroll:

I could get a little paper bag filled with pretzel rods and chocolate for a quarter. Jelly Royals were the most expensive candy - three for a nickel. Some of the candy was two for a penny.

We could sit at the soda fountain and get a small soda for a nickel - large was seven cents.

Later in 1967, for a quarter we could get a bag of Wise Potato Chips and a large soda for a quarter and hang out in the back of the store at a table.

When I got my license in 1971, I could get three gallons of gas for a dollar.

My first job I made $75 a week, and that was a lot of money. I remember putting two winter coats on layaway (one of them was one of those Afghanistan fur coats - they were so cool   ) and having them paid off in no time.

If you spent $15.00 on a pair of shoes, that was extravagant and meant that the shoes were made of good Italian leather.

Flip flops were fifty cents. No one would think of wearing them anywhere other than the beach.

Hamburgers were twelve cents at White Castle. Despite all the bad press the place got, I loved their hamburgers.

I remember riding a bus for a nickel.

Almost everything was affordable and within your means. The dollar was worth a lot more back then.

I remember when, for ten dollars, a doctor would come to your house and give you a penicillin shot.

You could go to a dentist (before dental insurance skyrocketed their prices) and get your teeth filled and cleaned for under $100, and you could actually make payments instead of having to pay all at once.
