Ghost - Meliora

Asked if there are any plans for GHOST to record a new EP similar to 2013's "If You Have Ghost", which was produced by Dave Grohl and included cover versions of four songs from other acts, the Nameless Ghoul responded: "We don't really know. We have a list of songs that we want to record that was initially on the list, basically, to record together with the [latest GHOST] album ['Meliora']. But the way that the material for the album also took a lot of time to pre-produce and to write and arrange and the recording ended up being a procedure that allowed for very little extra material. Whereas many bands go into the studio and they record seventeen songs, choose thirteen and then leave the rest as an extra topping later, we never really got to do that. We had one song ['Zenith'] that was sort of taken out of the main album and added as an extra track, but we never ended up with a long list of stuff that we can just portion out. So that leaves us now in a moment where we're trying to figure out: should we record an EP?

So, I'm wondering why she never actually says the name of the album. What's so hard about "Meliora"? It's not like they're touring for Infestissumam or anything.

She says the name at the beginning, around the 0.30 mark. ;)

Ghost have just added some more European dates for 2016.

They're playing in Frankfurt in February (100 km away from me). :dweez:

Two weeks to go & I see Ghost twice in 2 days.

Looks like I'll have to wait for the February gigs.

Which two are you going to?

Wow, great. I wish I could see them in England. I've checked flights for some of the UK gigs, but I think the trip would be too expensive for me.

Save up because they are doing the London Palladium in March as well - that will be immense

Good idea. I don't know if I can do it then, because they're playing three shows in February that are all within 150 km from me.

I'm pretty sure I cannot resist to snatch tickets for all three.

Meliora:

First of all, I’ll say about the cover, which is dismall and very detailed.

I see parallel lines who guide our view to the second layer, where the image of Papa Emeritus III hold lights and at the same time, becomes a skull face. As the gates open there’s a depth coming from the light in the distance.

An amazing drawing, really. :D

Now, it’s about the music. Ghost really made improvements in their sound here, the songs are even better than the last album.

To me, lyrics are simple, direct and meaningful. They’re about a part of what we are and how we need to hold it and accept it. How many things in this world are taken to worship, how certain things done and said as humanity are condemned and also taken as great truth. At the same time, there’s a sign of hope, for example on the song He Is.

If someone asks me about an album between “the light” and “the shadows”, I’ll recommend this one.
