I don't care if the editing is as bad as an Iron Maiden video, the sound is what's important!

Clockwork Angels video editing made me want to vomit, I do care about video and audio

Same here! CA's was horrid. Hopefully the new one will be more like S&A's.

Does this mean he'll also be doing the companion CD? That is the most important for me by far, as I'll watch concert video every once in a while, but I'll listen to live CDs a lot.

I think for all of the recent concerts (Rio onwards) the audio is near identical to the video, so if he's doing one, he's doing the other.

I'm in the same boat. I probably won't watch the video that often, at least a few times, but I'll probably play the live album into the ground.

I just watched the CA dvd a couple of weeks ago and actually enjoyed it. I agree the video editing is overboard...no question, but the audio is quite good to my ears.

Fingers crossed for R40.

You guys complaining this hard need to listen a bit harder....holy hell already...gotta say I complete,y disagree on all the bitching about CA dvd....CA in particular grew wings compared with the CD studio version...I also at no point ever had a problem knowing what Neil was playing...seriously.

Like the pick for R40 though...very much;)....

I sometimes wonder whether there are two versions of the dvd out there!

Presumably what it is being played on makes some difference and also which audio setup is chosen.

There are plenty of people who share your opinion but I'm a relative newby and was drawn in hook, line & sinker by the Time Machine, R30 and Snakes & Arrows dvd's.

CA left me bereft! The mix is so poor it leaves me fatigued after about 20 minutes. And Neil barely exists on it!

Even my wife looked up from her book and commented how bad it sounded.

My brother-in-law is a hi-fi specialist and declared it one of the worst mixes he had heard. And that was after reassuring me there was nothing wrong with my setup.

Just to be clear. this is the DTS output I'm talking about.

I think I may just walk off into the sunset if R40 proves to be similar :)

Thought SnA was the best live album in terms of mix.

I think it sounds great. Amazing the difference between it and CA's. You'd never know they were produced by the same guy. CA's is so poorly done.

The only thing I found listenable on CA Tour CD was the guitar which was crystal clear. Otherwise everything else was a muddy mess.

I thought and still think the S&A dvd is their very best dvd!

That or R30. R30 has fantastic drum sound.

Yes, This is great news! I have friend who's home theatre makes CA sound pretty good, but it overall has a weird mix and although you can hear everyone Neil is way back and light sounding. NOT how he ever sounds live so why they did it that way is beyond me?

Hmmm. Didn't know they were produced by same guy.

Despite loving the TMT and CA sets, I always find myself listening to SnA Live. Digital Man, Circumstances, Way The Wind Blows, etc. They all sound absolutely gorgeous for being a live album. And the DVD is really well made, too.

I thought, when I first heard CA Live, that a part of the mixing issue was the venue. The American Airlines Center is huge, and I remember them having a nightmarish evening in terms of sound. When Subdivisions first came on, I turned to my buddy in shock at how quiet it was. About the time they got to Territories, the sound was better - but it never did get to the volume you'd expect for a Rush show. For example, in Lincoln this year, I left believing it was the loudest concert I've ever been to, and probably the best Rush show I'd seen. The sound was wonderful, and the venue isn't all that big.

Rambling aside, I believe they take those live recordings from the soundboard, correct? If that's the case, CA was doomed from the beginning. Producer probably had a box of tissues from the moment he opened those raw files.

It was also the best in terms of setlist.

I do love the set - and I'm partial to SnA as an album as a whole, so I love those tracks live.

R30 is tops in my book, even if it doesn't have the best setlist. Beautifully filmed, editing solid and awesome sound.

100% agree.

Re: editing - I think this has the least amount of 'Mtv rapid cuts' that make my head hurt. You get to see the guys play.

Plus I think it does the best job capturing the lighting and videos behind the band. I prefer wide shots of the stage, like what you see when you're actually there. When there's too many close-ups, you may as well be watching a rehearsal.

Big Summer News!

I'm very excited and proud to be recording and mixing these two monumental shows for Rush in the LiveWire Remote Recorder for a very special live DVD.

I am sure when you all type DVD you also mean that there will be a blu-ray version too.

DVD is easier to type than Blu Ray ;)
