On a side note....I'm now reading Dune by Herbert for the first time and am enjoying it...it was a gift in the leather bound B&N edition...great looking book as well.....

From what I'm reading though it looks as if I should stop there?

Dune is an excellent book and I love to re-read it every few years. But stop there. The first sequel is bad, the second is so atrocious I wasn't able to finish it, and I've heard the rest are worse. Apparently Herbert used up all his rocket sauce on the original book.

Agreed. They got more and more obtuse and turned into the Duncan Idaho (greatest name ever) ghola sideshow.

First of all, I agree that Kevin Anderson is a hack. What I don't get is why Neil likes him so much. When you see the books Neil has read Anderson's writing is garbage. And I couldn't stand all the Rush lyrics he shoehorned in there. Blech.

Anyhoo, I was thinking what would be cool is having Neil retire from touring but still be the lyricist and studio drummer for the band, and then have someone like Portnoy be the touring drummer. I can dream, right?

now that Alex's playing has diminished so rapidly, along with Geddy's voice, I think it really is time for the band to be done.

Dude did you smoke your breakfast?

This tour was a RESURGENCE, not a decline.

A resurgence in fan enthusiasm, but I figure that's mostly due to the set list and a "this might be the last time we get to see them" pre-nostalgia.

They have played exceptionally well. Fans are one thing, but all you have to do is read the reviews of the casual observer in print/digital media. The biggest criticisms have come from a few (mainly those who play in tribute bands). Alex hasn't been perfect this tour...but a decline? When has he ever been perfect? Geddy's voice is much improved... significantly so.

Whatever Geddy is doing is working. By far the best he has sounded vocally since the S&A tour.

Up until this tour, I was perfectly OK with Peart staying home for the tours and letting someone else sit in for him on the gigs (maybe not Portnoy, but someone with decent chops and enthusiasm for the opportunity), but now that Alex's playing has diminished so rapidly, along with Geddy's voice, I think it really is time for the band to be done.

After Tulsa I would have agreed but in Denver they were all great.

I was worried by the time they got to L.A. Geddy's voice would be shot and they would be tired. It seemed to be just the opposite.

I'm sick of people saying that Rush are too old to continue! People tell me all the time that I am too old to continue doing my job but I can still flip burgers at McDonald's just as good as any fifteen year old. The nerve of people telling me to quit just when my acne is clearing up!

Rush bowing out after a show/tour that was as kickass as R40 will only add to their legacy. Unlike many bands who dilute their greatness by sticking around until they've become a sad parody of themselves.

Yes exactly. I don't understand the people who want them to hang around until they're sitting in wheelchairs on the stage. Let them go out in a blaze of glory. Hopefully the DVD will be good and that will just add to it. We can hope at least.
