Well, gang....what do we do now?

I have sort of an answer to that Permanent Waves' argument straight from the horse's mouth.

This is what Ray said about the reason why albums are released when they are:

Hypothetically, I would put a record out in January because a chart position was important, and the tour wasn’t starting until April. They (the U.S. label) would insist that they wanted it in the 4th quarter (of the past year) because that’s the biggest quarter (of music sales). I would say. “That’s great. The record will be over in four weeks.” And they thought, “It makes our year, our quarter, and it is probably going to sell as much in that quarter as it is going to sell anyway” blah blah blah. I’m like “no.” To this day, I still try to build this band. If I wanted to go out January or February, and do a release to coincide with the tour so that the record would be in the stores for 6 months rather than 6 weeks, I didn’t care ultimately if it sold the same amount. I ultimately cared that it built the band. Keep in mind, at every American label we were at, we ended up with people who hadn’t signed us. Who didn’t care about us. Who didn't love us. Yet, in Canada we have had the consistency of doing things on our own, and with a label (Anthem Records, distributed by Universal Music Canada) which was right for the band, and not what was right for the label.

Now more than ever I consider it a seventies' album released when it was simply for strategy.

Everything revolves around bringing in the bucks. It's a business after all. Marketing is everything.

Isn't it true? Money is the bottom line for many.

I liked it better before I knew how much of a racket the music industry really is. It's just a big business and the band is the corporation.

Everything is a business. People are out to make money. That's the big deal behind the meaning of The Spirit of Radio.

Big money got a mighty voice...Big Money make no sound.

Which, by the way, is one of my favorite Neil lines. He had a lot!

How many drinks was that you had?

You're as bad as me tonight. Except I'm not drinking. Just blabbering away. Must be my way of working this eventful day out somehow.

Let's ask the magic conch?

Oh Magic Conch, now that Rush has finished their R40 Tour, will they ever tour again?

Is this date the end of RUsh as we know it?

What shall we do while we wait?

That's why Rush singing the song always makes me laugh.

I found The Big Money is aboot the paradox, the good and bad of big money...I know not an original observation.

Hey! I'm much worse than you! And yeah, that song and all of Power Windows stick out to me as awesome lyrically. I didn't mind the music either. To me, it's the same as people claiming Metallica sold out on "The Black Album". I mean, are they supposed to make the same album over and over? Thank God we're fans of a band that offers diversity. #notU2

We accept it and continue our lives, which have been enriched by such wonderful rock & roll music. :ebert:

Very, very well put. I would add that we also cherish the memories of the live shows we have seen, continue to enjoy the studio albums they have released, treasure the live CD & DVD's they have released and hope that perhaps we get a few more live CD's and DVD's from them.

Plus, as you said, we move on with our lives. Only time will tell what other wonderful things may come into our individual and collective lives.

Do what we've always done. There is life here even when they're not touring, believe it or not.

Perhaps binge watching Trek or Firefly

Maybe go to another web forum and speculate aboot that Battlestar Galactica movie "coming soon"?

It's coming any day now!!!! That place has already been given an enema. I think it needs a Hog Report.

For crying out loud, man! At least you've won a SuperBowl...Sorry, as a Falcons' fan that GIF was bugging me!

Actually 3 of them, but who's counting.;)

Remember the Broadway musicals poll thread? :laughing guy: :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

That must have been before I joined. Wait...good poll question: How many members remember the Broadway musicals poll?

Well...there's only so many polls you can do and so many things you can say about each one, so tangents are bound to happen. I would have not enjoyed the Broadway musical aspect, though. Would have reminded me too much of "Superconductor"!

It started in the middle of another thread and we started talking about Broadway musicals, and other people were pissed because we weren't talking about the subject of the poll. Can't please everyone all the time. From what I remember, that was the best part of that thread.

:laughing guy: It was the best part of the thread. Went on for pages too. :laughing guy: :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

What thread was that, I must of missed it.

There are 2 things I'd like to see them do? 1. Come over to England and do about 5 Open Air gigs in the summer in one place either London or Birmingham with it's central location and 2, go back into the studio and record one more great album and make it a retro album bringing back the bands fourth member the keyboards, it was their most popular time and I miss it we've had too much turgid music since Roll The Bones, I was very disappointed with Vapor Trails they could have done much better after a long break.
