What Made You Sad Today?

Feeling very sad for my brother today.  His cat Garfield was put to sleep Sunday.  She (yes, a girl..there's a funny story there) had been losing weight for a week or so and I took them to the vet Thursday.  Seems she had a blockage and wasn't getting much nourishment from her food, and even if they did surgery the prognosis wasn't good.  He took her home Friday to have time with her over the weekend.

Losing a pet is always traumatic but for him, it has been devastating.  He lives alone and she was his little buddy and companion.  Going to be difficult to come home to a truly empty house now.   My heart just hurts for him.

My niece is majorly attached to her cats.  When Elrick had to be euthanized recently, someone from the vet came to my niece's house and did it there.

She was a basket case before the event, but she came out of it a LOT stronger.  She grew up a lot that day.

I'm very sorry to hear this. My condolences to your brother who's just lost a beloved pet. It must feel empty in the house for a lengthy time. :rose:

Found out yesterday I may have Afib and/or cardiac arrythmia.  Cardiologist has me scheduled for a bunch of tests through May, including echocardiogram and stress tests.  He also put me on Eliquis, which does not have a generic equivalent, at $650 for a 90 day supply.  Onward through the fog, people.

Sorry to hear that, PJ.  A buddy of mine just spent a couple of days in the hospital getting his heart checked over. They caught things early, thankfully, and it looks like he'll be getting a Stent.

No urine test, hopefully.  You'll have to study all night for that one!   (Weak attempt at humor to cheer you up!)

An elderly lady walked into my working place (a library) today. I taught her how to use our printing system. She was very smart and eager to learn about new technologies, and this, alongside with her way of talking, reminded so strongly of my dear friend who passed away in July 2022 due to brain cancer. My friend was always among the first ones to adopt new apps, digital services, and equipment, and she worked in the field of developing and testing digital services as well. It was very heartbreaking to communicate with that lady today as she was like the incarnation of my friend but a lot older. I almost started crying. I miss my friend so much. Maybe I got to see a glimpse of how she could have been if she had been given more years.

Onward through the cardiac chronicles,  was fitted with a heart monitor that I'm wearing for the next week.  About the size of the palm of my hand, worn on a lanyard or pocket clip.  3 leads, one on each side of front of shoulders, and a third on my left side just above my waist.  Battery lasts about 16 hours, so they get swapped out an recharged every day. The saga continues.

Is the monitor uncomfortable to wear or do you worry about remembering to swap out the batteries? As you suggest, this is a part of a bigger picture. Do you have people to share your worries with?

No, the monitor is smaller than the palm of my hand, and half as thick.  It has a second external shell with a lanyard attached so I can wear it around my neck comfortably without ripping a sensor loose.  Battery pack is easy to swap out, barely 20 seconds to pull weak battery, put the charged battery in, and put the weak battery in the charger.  I usually swap batteries first thing in the morning, fully charged pack is good for 14-16 hours.  Only pause will be when I shower-monitor gets removed and paste to skin attach points come off.  After shower sensors get new attach stickers and those get reapplied.  I'm living on sponge baths and washing my hair over the kitchen sink.  Thank God it's only until Monday, when I go back to the cardiologist and turn the monitor in.  After the information is analyzed they'll decide how to move forward.  Right now I'm in Murtagh mode-getting too old for this shit. . I talk with my sister back in MI, she's my main point of contact with everyone.

Good to hear you'll soon get rid of that monitor. I hope the cardiologist will make a decision that is best for you and your well-being. I'm glad you have a close family member to talk to.

Three weeks ago on Saturday, my beloved little baby kitkit passed away in my arms, 21 years old. I love you, Boop, I'll never forget you...  :rose:
