furie Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 What's the meaning behind the seagull on some of the R40 merchandise?
EagleMoon Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I kind of wondered that myself. There's one on my T-shirt 1
toymaker Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) That's a seagull? I thought it was a shithawk. Oh, wait . . . same thing. http://cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/images/videos/r40/r40-cover.jpg Edited June 29, 2015 by toymaker
toymaker Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 They're about to retire. There are three empty chairs on a beach. Seagulls are often found near beaches. The chairs represent their well-earned retirement. The dalmatian is running behind the chairs The dalmatian represents their career. (Their career has been a bit spotty.) The dog is running because the whole thing seems to have gone by so fast. There's a man with a metal detector on the beach. He has a weird beard. He is "searching for metal" - perhaps a reference to the fact that people have tried to characterize Rush's music as "metal." Or, he is searching for buried treasure. The fans hope there will be buried treasure in a vault, released to the public. They want "Hemispheres live" and "Signals live" for example. The seagull is waiting to see if there is anything to be scavenged. They are beach scavengers. Maybe they hope the retired Alex, Geddy and Neil will throw them french fries. The dalmatian hopes maybe they will throw it a bone. The fans hope that they will throw them more unreleased music. 9

Merely Space Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 It's simply taken from Hugh's R40 painting, which is set on a beach.
RushIslander Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 There are Seagulls recorded on "No~One At The Bridge", and "Natural Science". They deserve the recognition for their efforts, as do the English House Sparrows from the original and ESL versions of "Xanadu"; of which the birds are not yet identified whom now grace the intro of the now 2015 R~40 version of said song... :D 1
Mr. JD Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 It's simply taken from Hugh's R40 painting, which is set on a beach. This makes the most sense to me. 1

PTSD has caused a sort of obsession, yes. (I'm lying obviously.) 1

apetersvt Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) The VIP swag wooden picks contain a seagull one as well http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mKy096OHVt8nD31Koc_QSMA.jpg Edited July 1, 2015 by apetersvt 1
saltomortale Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 One of the R40 pins also has the seagull on it. (There's also one with a crown and 1977--are they suggesting this tour is A Farewell to Kings?)
