BTW: I appreciate your praise of "regular" beer. I enjoy a craft beer, but I can't stand the elitist attitude that derides a nice, simple lager. Who needs 8.7% alcohol on a hot day?

I love throwing back a Miller Lite or two after working in the yard. Say what you want about Lite, but I find it very refreshing.

Budweiser on the other hand...I can't drink the stuff. It gives me headaches and causes my body to produce copious amounts of methane.

I agree... I have no issue with Lite, but will avoid Bud with the only exception being XX on the rare occasion.

Personally, I almost never drink much so my choice is usually a craft style beer. When it's hot, I get water or lemonade... beer isn't terribly refreshing to me.

I had a Lakefront Pumpkin Lager last night and as much as I get annoyed with the fall pumpkin craze, it was perfectly paired with the swordfish.

I don't really go out of my way to look for any particular brew as i find the time-honored beers are the best..

My favoured "beer" (not lager) is this stuff.. at 7.5% ABV.

The other day I had a locally brewed Point Diablo Dunkelweizen by Headlands Brewing Company in San Francisco. It was possibly the best Dunkelweizen I've had--rich and cloudy, but smooth, complex, and full of flavour. Dunkelweizens are not popular in the US so it's rare to find a non-German one, and even harder to find a really good one!

Try as I might I can only drink Guinness served the proper way. Can or bottle does not Do it for me even with the No2 disc inside.

 Guinness is nasty, unless it comes out of that special tapper. But when it does, it's the nectar of the gods. :hail:

Guinness Drought

I know a guy who can't go a day without a half a case of this stuff. I think I'd like a different to try original or extra smooth next time (maybe it's the placebo effect, I don't like associating any liquid with "dry" or "drought").

It's "draught", as in "draft".

 or

Can't decide.

And dry-it's in reference to the style. Dry Irish Stout (Guinness, Murphy's, Beamish, etc.). Bitter, as opposed to a "sweet, milk, or cream stout" (Mackesson XXX, Farson's, Bell's Special Double Cream, etc. The cream or milk designation refers to the addition of lactose, which sweetens the brew but does is not turned into alcohol during fermentation.

I had a can of it at Thanksgiving dinner. It's not draft Guinness, but it tasted alright.

It's probably a sign of a problem, but I love ales... pales, in particular.

Basically, find a pine cone.... grind it up... ferment it with yeast.... give it to me.

Thank you, universe, for the British invasion of the sub continent for it gave us hopped up bitters.

Sure, I will partake in a lager (what I call a "porch pounder"), but I prefer a very bitter, very hoppy, very ale ale.

PS I also only pretty much drink cab sauv, maybe a shiraz, on the wine side. Like I said, maybe a sign of a problem.

Also, if you ever want a light, drinkable but dark beer, find yourself some Victoria. It's a Mexican brew, but a Vienna. Quite smooth. Quite nice year round. Only about 4%, but easy on the liver.

Yeah, I know, it's not an ale and not at all bitter, but it's my version of Dasani.
