  1. 1. Which album is the best one?

Dreamline >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the entirety of Presto

And the rest of RtB is crap!

There's actually no song on Presto that I like, and except for Dreamline, I hate RtB! (which pretty much shows why I didn't go to any shows those two tours!)

Then RTB should get your vote.

I recall they have pulled Bravado, Roll and Dreamline out of the hat (pun intended) for a few of their tours since the 90s so I'd say there are three dudes that disagree with ya.

LOL. It's all subjective. So here is my take.

Roll The Bones has the following (what I deem) upper tier Rush songs:

Dreamline

Bravado

Ghost of a Chance

Wheres My Thing

Roll The Bones - say what you want but this song was a concert staple for several tours and I really love it.

Presto has the following upper Tier Rush songs:

Show Don't Tell

The Pass

Presto

Available Light

The albums are like a brother and sister. Same sonic approach, same song writing approach. Yet Roll The Bones was far more successful in the big picture.

Don't care what anybody else says.

Presto is every bit as great as Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures or Grace Under Pressure.

Good grief, I am even starting to think I like it more than Hold Your Fire (which I also LUUUURVE) and AFTK.

Very tough call. I love them both and normally rank Presto higher, but after listening to Roll the Bones today, I think I may need to update my list.

PRESTO

Show Don't Tell: 9.7

Chain Lightning: 9.7

The Pass: 9.9

War Paint: 7.0

Scars: 9.0

Presto: 8.7

Superconductor: 9.2

Anagram (for Mongo): 3.3

Red Tide: 9.0

Hand Over Fist: 4.6

Available Light: 9.9

• Overall: 8.2 •

I ranked Presto highly because of its near consistency. Two stinkers, but overall a great album. However, it is the only album that, in my eyes, does not contain a song that is a perfect 10.0. The Pass and Available Light are close, but not quite.

ROLL THE BONES

Dreamline: 10.0

Bravado: 9.9

Roll the Bones: 9.3

Face Up: 9.2

Where's My Thing?: 9.5

The Big Wheel: 9.0

Heresy: 8.5

Ghost of a Chance: 9.3

Neurotica: 8.5

You Bet Your Life: 4.8

• Overall: 8.8 •

Good album. Very underrated. Closer kinda sucks, but otherwise this is a fine release.

Face Up 9.2? Neurotica 8.5? Scars and The Big Wheel 9?

Suddenly the "infinite number of universes" theory seems a lot more plausible...

 Well first of all, it's very plausible. We don't know what else is out there. But, you know, maybe I just happen to like those songs. They're catchy!

Good grief indeed! ;)

I love Presto, but it shall not overtake Hold Your Fire. Or A Farewell to Kings, for that matter. But I still think it's an excellent record.

Available Light on it's own is better than all of RTB thus Presto wins.

ETA: RTB has YBYL... the single worst song in the long and storied history of this band.

I take it your not a anarchist reactionary running dog revisionist?

Presto was an album of transition, and, as with many of Rush's transition albums it is quite uneven. In RTB, the band is more confident in their new approach, wrote better songs, and quite obviously had more fun with them. I like Presto and don't bemoan the light/thin sound as much as many do, but RTB was a return to form that got the boys known and liked by new fans for the first time since MP. It reversed a long, slow decline for the band quite successfully.

It was a hard choice. I really like both, and think both are underrated, but i chose Roll The Bones.

Presto. RTB is just too uneven of an album...

Exactly I like what the band was attempting to do with RTB but it has more forgettable songs on it compared with Presto.

Both Hine albums are extremely similar in terms of how much I like them. They both have a couple real bangers, with 1 dud song and the rest being middling, but all still good in their own way. For production reasons, as well as lyrical, RTB just barely takes Presto for me
