VT....i can go on all day, lol. Anyway my other problem is there are no peaks and valley's to the music........it's all at level bazillion and in your face. I always believe music should have those highs and lows. VT has none of that.

Sorry, lol

Mick

Trying to listen to it is like trying to work when there's jack hammering going on outside your window.

Honestly, a lot of Rush albums don't really have highs and lows lol. They kinda like to go a million miles an hour whenever possible

I'll take sadness over apathy any day ;)

Seriously? Not me.

Music wise :)

Oh well in that case...yeah. But I don't think S&A is apathetic in any sense. I think it suffers from over production but other than that I think the songs are good. I can't say the same thing about Vapor Trails. It sounds like one long drone to me.

Maybe it's just because I'm sleeping halfway through Snakes :)

Vapor Trails is an absolute masterpiece. One of the best albums the band ever made, and by far their most muscular release.

Both ugly and beautiful, it has something Snakes sorely lacks: a personality.

I get the hate. But I love Vapor Trails more than many of the bands better recieved albums.

Totally agree with this!

This right here says it all.

Very well said, Segue.

Thanks guys!

But yeah, VT ftw!

The only reason it has a personality is because it came out after Neil's personal tragedy. Rating an album purely on sadness factor doesn't make it better.

Erm...I wasn't referring to the sadness factor.

The album is a rather metallic, raw, almost Husker Du flavoured beast, with plenty of angst, sadness, anger, quotable lyrics, excellent, off kilter melodies, some rather splendid vocals and in all honesty, Snakes and Arrows is just a beautifully played dirge.

Vapor Trails is a very interesting album, it has a lot to say and it thunders it out.

Sometimes I think the shoddy production was a blessing in disguise. It suits the depth of feeling the lyrics express, and musically it is bold and original, and song wise it is so ridiculously strong I prefer it now to albums I love such as Permanent Waves or 2112.

Seriously, this album has a personality. Strong personality. One very much unrivalled by the rest of their back catalogue, and I think for this reason many find it hard to swallow. I did. This wasn't the Rush I came to love with albums like Moving Pictures or Signals. Buuuuttt...once I adjusted to its fire and sulphur, I realised for all its rawness and loudness, it is actually very misunderstood and extremely lovable.

Even though you mention sadness, you're not referring to sadness?

Actually I was the one that mentioned sadness. I didn't say you did until just now. :)

At least you're able to. With VT the loud pounding wouldn't allow it. :D

I truly think that Secret Touch is the best Rush song post Grace Under Pressure.

Vapor Trails is better by a mile. It's a top 5 album for me. Nothing on Snakes really does it for me. It's very much a similar album to Test For Echo, where everything sounds nice but there's spark missing. Spindrift has grown on me recently, I have to say.

S & A is far, far better. Better songs. Wayyyy better production than the original VT. The remixed VT has (obviously) significantly better production than the original and is, consequently, a major improvement but its still nothing special.

S & A has a ton of great songs - Armor & Sword, Far Cry, Hope, We Hold On, Working them Angles, The Larger Bowl, The Way the Wind Blows. Spindthrift & Faithless are not half bad.

What VT got? Ghost Rider & Peaceable Kingdom are good. Other than that the original gives a headache and the remix is better but still none of the other songs really stand out in a good way.

S & A all the way!!!

Oh... and I'm one of the few people who thinks We Hold On is an absolutely fantastic song!

I'd say its the second best song on the whole album. Other than that and Far Cry, the rest sucks.

Mal Nar is the second best song on the album.. We Hold On sucks...but it has a lot of company.

Hope is another gem. Actually I'd say Hope is better than Far Cry and We Hold On.

Snakes has a personality. It's just one you'd never want to spend any time around, like the cantankerous uncle at the family reunion.

Nothing sad about the heralding of redemption captured in Sweet Miracle. It's inspiring.

Snakes. VT sucks.

Mick

VT. Snakes sucks.

Well, except for "Far Cry" - that's the best "single" Rush has made since "Dreamline".
