Rick N. Backer Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 The ads for Pyromania when it was released called it AOR - Arson Oriented Rock.
laughedatbytime Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I know some won't like this but it's true. I'm putting Heart. In the 80's they made some great GREAT AOR. love those wilson sisters. Mick 70s Heart kicks ass. 80s Heart sucks donkeys. 1
goose Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I would say Strangeways 'Walk In The Fire' topped 'Native Sons'.Hard to go past Journey for mine - like Rush, they never had a hit down here so the only time I heard them was from my stereo.Work Of Art doing great stuff now.Have also been listening to a great new British band called The Struts.Little River Band are a great AOR act from your neck of the woods.
goose Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Rio Speedwagon must also be tarred with this brush. I really liked them until they went all "mushy". The success that brought meant they stayed that way . I call it the "Bryan Adams Syndrome" ( shudder). OK...need to check them out, alongside Saga and Angel. As good as REO AOR gets. 2

It's a fun AOR album to play!Trying to match the drum fills on that song is a tough task but nonetheless it's a great song to play! The whole album is!!! The first three ASIA albums are AOR BLISS!! Yes you guys, I love ASTRA!!

Segue Myles Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 Currently hooked on Foreigner, and for all the clichéd lyrics, sappy power ballads, samey album fillers and often overwrought vocals, this band only ever released great albums! Not sure why, but the less successful albums strike me as the best: Mr Moonlight, Can't Slow Down, Inside Information and even the debut are just extraordinarily lively and fun pop albums! I mean, I do tire of all the ballads, and yet somehow I keep on playing them. Over and over!
Segue Myles Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 Foreigner- Big Dog: wildly underrated heavy gem! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYMWOCKDu-Q
Segue Myles Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Top five AOR bands: 5. Styx*4. Strangeways3. Foreigner2. Trillion1. Toto *I nearly put down Kansas, but I hear more prog than AOR in my favourite albums of this band. Edited July 17, 2015 by Segue Myles
bluefox4000 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 AOR isn't doing it for me at the moment but i would Add 80's Heart. FANTASTIC run of AOR records. Mick
