The debut is exactly where Rush started, and a refinement of this sound could have been interesting. Instead we got Fly By Night, the start of the Rush we know and love as we know and love them. Based on these two "debut" albums alone, I feel the self-titled shows the most promise, and is by far the more enjoyable effort. That great music flowed from the songwriting team that emerged with FBN is not a given, but a miracle.

 

Fly By Night is my least favourite, as I am choosing to give Snakes and Arrows the second lowest on the basis I genuinely like more than one song.

Are you guys trying to piss me off? Earlier today I was thinking of a topic where you rank the Zep and Rush albums together from best to worst. HOTH was my early frontrunner.

 

And the idea that the debut, a Zep knockoff, is better than the original is laughable.

I can't go there. Not a fan of that one and I was stoked when it came out. Love and have the rest of the catalog however... :huh:

Hot Dog is a great song. Fun, funny, and a good tune. And I love how Jimmy can f**k up the intro and be like, "f**k it, it's staying in the final".

But overall...another uneven album.
