New Interview with Neil

They could find ways of playing live if they wanted to. Bring family to a base and play a bunch of shows over 2-3 weeks. Then have break and move base. Do smaller venues and cut down expenses. They would not make huge profits but would still be working musicians. No complaints if they want to stop but much time away from family is not really necessary. They could probably do a Billy Joel type monthly show at 2 or 3 arenas around North America for years if they wanted. Big concentrated tours can go but there are ways to play without big cost.

Oh well. I'm going to the venue where I first saw them; this being the second time i would have seen a live act there.

Yeah, its probably the last go around. I could see them possibly doing a festival here or there...but I think we can all agree that it would be beyond depressing to see (in the unlikely event) the boys do a residency/casino tour...I think they know that's where bands go to die. They'll probably go out with a bang this tour...possibly an album and maybe short bursts of light touring lasting about 2 weeks/5 dates each. You can definitely tell through the updates since the last tour Neil is enjoying his most important job, being a dad...Alex has been busy travelling...and I can just picture Geddy sitting alone at home practicing in front of the mirror like an awkward teen awaiting the phone call to let him know they're back on tour....but alas, this will be the last big tour...probably the last tour period...at least for a year or two...who knows?

No, they'll never do a residency or the casino circuits.

One-offs at festivals and high density markets like NYC, LA, maybe.

But this does feel like the last tour. R-40. Still, one wonders why not just call it a farewell tour and make big bank on the way out?

The way these guys need to prepare, I doubt they do one-off's...

IMO, they have not come to a concensus regarding their future. They may be showing signs of coming to the end, but it's not written in stone...not yet.

And, they have said in the past that they have no interest is doing some grandiose, self-serving Farewell Tour.

After this tour is over, they will take another break, and then they will decide.

Just a slick way to imply "This is it, kiddies! Rush's farewell tour. Better get your tickets cuz we are really done after this. No more Rush. No more live dvds. We're serious this time!"

Gee, what a tremendous coincidence. Stated the same day they decide to tour. Incredible. If the setlist for this show is going to be the usual garbage, I would just encourage them to pull the plug now and disappear into obscurity. No, really. They are such a tremendous insult to themselves and their history. What a f*cking disappointment this once great band has turned into.

Never know. One of them could lose all of their cash in a stock market swindle (for example) and NEED to tour.

"Um, hey, guys? I know we kinda said we were done, but I just lost my ass. . . ."

If this is the last tour, I wonder what that means for new albums? Also, I imagine they each will pursue solo projects like Geddy and Alex have already done. Neil doing some jazz related stuff like Bill Bruford has done.

Definitely sounds like the last one. I wouldn't write off another album or two but sounds like they're done touring.

No way,

Just longer breaks. :codger: :D

Wishful thinking. :D

They have to much in the tank and the demand is out there,

Either way I can live with it. :codger:

I'm so much crossing my fingers for an European leg right now!

I'm with you mate, but something tells me there will be no 2nd leg...

I have a feeling it all depends on how the North American leg goes and what toll it takes on them. But I shouldn't complain at least I got see them once.

I listened to an interview with Alex the other day and he said you'll notice that the tour is a short one. It's obvious they're tired of it.

I think it just takes a large toll on them and they'd rather quit touring while they're still doing well.

... disappear into obscurity... sounds like a good idea for some forum members.
