A capo can unlock all kinds of great things:

Hotel California

By coincidence, currently doing Hotel California with one.

That's how it's done! :)

It's interesting to me because Felder plays with the capo on the 7th fret but Frey on acoustic had his on the 2nd fret. Frey played more of a strum pattern though while Felder plays the arpeggio.

yeah, I sussed it when I watched the video of them performing in 77.

Unfortunately, the only way you can do it live exactly like that is if one of you has a 6 and 12 string doubleneck, so what I do is to capo it on the second fret and for the clean verses kick in a touch of pitchshifting, chorus etc to get a roughly 12 string feel....works very well, and though some of the notes by necessity are different, the overall feel is the same.

On the rare occasion I play guitar live I mount my Ric 12 a la Alex, but I have never played Hotel live. :) On a song like American Girl I play the mounted 12 string for much of the song then do the solos on my Les Paul. It is cumbersome on a small stage.

That Eagles live video is great for picking up all kinds of cool stuff. I was so glad they included it with the documentary.

Hemispheres is one of my noodling songs I play when just zoning out in front of the tv. That and Xanadu and Vital Signs. Great bass stuff!

My hands have nerve issues, and can be rendered inoperable for weeks or months at a time for digitally-intensive activities (such as guitar).

They've improved from a recent spout, so I'm back.

Lately,

L.A. Woman - The Doors

The Anarchist - Rush

Hemispheres Book II - Rush

Sex Type Thing - Stone Temple Pilots

Kid Gloves - Rush

A current instrumental I'm working on called The 4 to 9 Evening Shift. It incorporates parts written in 4/4, 5/4, ... , 9/4. So far I have the "main themes" for 4, 7, and 5 written.

The goal is to have all of this hammered out by end of tomorrow since I'm trying to put it into a Unity game I'm working on.

Love that song - so much fun to play! Solo is a tough nut though ... there are so many subtleties involved in getting it to sound just right. Not easy to play it well.

Sounds cool. I've been working on an instrumental called Manifold Destiny, which has sections of 11/8, 5/8, 7/8, 9/8, and 4/8...in fact I thought it was complete until just about a day ago. Upon further listening, the whole thing sounds more like an intro than a completed song.
