COS after FBN, AFTK after 2112

We all know that Caress of Steel was a difficult follow up to Fly by Night but does anyone else think the same could be said of A Farewell to Kings following 2112? I heard 2112 then Hemispheres then A Farewell to Kings. I remember thinking it was an odd album, there's no long, one side epic. Of course Xanadu was and is colossal, the neighbours at the time complaining at the volume but the album could be said to be disjointed although the musicianship had moved up a level, maybe a comparison is Presence following Physical Graffiti- Led Zep.

We are on the same page!

I think 2112 has two brilliant sides. But side B is not as great as side A.

As for CoS, absolute fanatic for it! The spoken word parts kinda annoy me but I love everything about the album otherwise. Even ITIGB, which is really fun!

AFTK is a 10/10, alongside HYF, MP and GUP.

AFTK's is a more mature album compared to 2112, so to me the progression from one album to the next is logical and believeable.

Well, I'd say Caress of Steel (rated 4.3) was a pathetic follow-up to Fly By Night (7.6). A Farewell to Kings (8.3), however, solidly followed 2112 (9.1).

Fly By Night sucks. So does the debut.

CoS as far as I am concerned is when Rush really arrived!

Worst post ever. By-Tor and the Snow Dog??? Hello??? Is anyone in there?

CoS is a pretty weak effort, truthfully, it is a little too ambitious for what their skill set was at that time and it does nothing but diminish what they did on FBN. For three kids in their early twenties, FBN was pretty f***ing incredible.

All tue songs on FBN sound better live. By Tor does nothing for me.

But Bastille Day, Lakeside Park, THE NECROMANCER, THE FOUNTAIN OF LAMNETH

Fly by Night is also very good

What I'm trying to say is, was AFTK the expected follow up to 2112. In Beyond the Lighted Stage there's not much mention of it if I remember. Don't think it sold as well as 2112 either. I'm not criticizing it just wondering.

The difference between the circumstances behind 2112 and AFTK is kinda funny. 2112 was thought to be their last album. A big angry "fukk you" to everyone!

AFTK was the first album after they bought their freedom. All three speak of nothing but good times recording this one, with birds chirping in the background..
