White Solstice, maybe...

I was focusing on the white, not the Christmas. Or maybe it should be...

White Secular Holiday.

I was going to suggest "Frosty the Snowman" for Neil.

But then I remembered that he's not one to believe in magic.

You mean Frosty isn't REAL???!!!???

I gave you a like here because that takes me back to one of two albums of Christmas music that we listened to every year when I was growing up. One was Andy Williams, and the other was Robert Goulet.

I don't have too much attachment to Christmas music these days.

My favorite is Johhny Mathis,

My mother would play his Christmas tunes all the time back in the 60's and 70's. :codger:

Me too. My older sister adored him and she played his albums all the time. I don't ever remember hearing anything other than Johnny Mathis at Christmas.

Nat King Cole is pure gold.

As a kid I would listen to a 45 by Jorge Jorgensen. "I just go nuts at Christmas". B dide was a comedy version of "A visit from St. NICK." Great memories singing along with that.

I can really only tolerate the hymns and then only on Christmas. :P

These would be called Christmas Carols, not hymns.

The greatest pop/rock Christmas single is Merry Xmas (argh! Taking the Christ out of Christmas) Everybody, by Slade. Released in '73 in the UK and played too death every year since, but pure poetry.

for YES fans, and some others try CHRIS SQUIRE'S SWISS CHOIR.... my family absolutely loves it and when his songs come on we look at each other and say "Yes!"

It's is basically Christmas music with a Yes feel to it. IMO BAD ASSERY.

I love Christmas songs. I don't like the overtly cute ones (shit like Alvin and the Chipmunks makes me want to murder babies). I like best the faith-based ones, although I'm a card carrying atheist. I just love the melodies. While not a Christmas song (despite often being played during the holidays), I think Ave Maria is the most beautiful and haunting melody and vocal ever recoded. Ever.

Anyone got any favorite non-officially-Christmas music to listen to at Christmastime?

A lot of local Celtic music Cd's and some dulcimer CD's. Husband used to play hammered dulcimer and lap dulcimer . . .

In the Hall of the Mountain King-Peer Gynt Suite, by Grieg (I think I recommended that for Halloween also ! :D) It always sounds like elves sneaking around to me . . .( I guess in the real story they are trolls . . .)

It IS real Christmas music but I love to play the Carpenters' Christmas CD; the voices and arrangements are just so pretty, I love it! :)

Dead by Xmas - Hanoi Rocks

2000 Miles - The Pretenders

I Don't Want to Fight Tonight - The Ramones

Fairytale of NY - The Pogues

That's all I got.

2,000 Miles.....ooh, I love that one. Just a beautiful melody, touching lyrics and sung with great feeling by Chrissie Hynde. How this song isn't better-known, I have no idea.
