Sick and/or Disturbing Movies

It's close to Halloween, so I decided to ask something: has anyone here besides me gone through that phase of watching the most controversially repulsive films you can get your hands on? Are you still going through it, and do you think it's more than a phase? Here's a relatively SFW list for the uninitiated:

NOTE: View at your own risk. Most of this stuff is really not suitable for anyone, though that probably won't stop some of you guys. :P

I went through a phase when I was 17-20, or so, where I wanted to watch the goriest horror films I would find. And then eventually I began renting the Faces of Death videos. But then it got really old, and I just went back to watching midget porn all the time.

I've never been into midget porn, but I did see "The Terror Of Tiny Town". It's public domain now, for obvious reasons.

August Underground is a simulator for an especially sick snuff film.

It's easy to find offensive, gross, and disturbing horror films. What about genuinely scary ones?

I was kind of into horror when I was in high school and would watch occasionally, but a about a year ago I went on a complete kick for a few months and watched over 200 of them (Cinemassacre's Monster Madness inspired me to), spanning throughout all years and subgenres. The whole experience really taught me just how poor the horror genre is.

Anyway, here's my personal top 5 sickest scenes from films:

^ Looking back I really hope I didn't think I was actually making something official there

The article about The Passion Of The Christ is beautifully written.

I too had a phase when I would watch the scariest movies I could find. Now I'm not that much into horror/slasher movies as the storyline sucks in too many of them. A well thought out plot with believable characters does more for me than cheap shock effects.

The most effective is the movies that shows the monsters are among us and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Two come to mind that I can't watch: I Spit On Your Grave and Human Centipede

Agreed.

Now if only I could unsee Martyrs.

I don't like "Halloween III: Season of the Witch". It bothers me because innocent children are the target of the murderer.

Saw the first Human Centipede and enjoyed the comedy of how ridiculous it was...Then came part 2. One of those films you tell people about and they'll only agree to watch it if you watch it with them...so I saw that disturbing sequel 3 times too many...There's all kinds of stuff worse than that though...I've been advised by friends that Antichrist and Serbian Film are two to stay as far away from as possible.

Good point on that one. It's said to be a big unintentional laugh-fest, but I agree that not every horror viewer is cynical enough to enjoy watching children getting picked off for being part of a consumer society. Adults? Fine, because they're the ones responsible.

My SO went through this phase shortly after we started dating about a decade ago. I didn't see any of these movies but I did see parts of Hostel, one of the Saw movies and human Centipede. She loved movies with such excessive violence at the time and figured I might like them as well since I sometimes played rather violent games like Gears of War. I couldn't stand them, but for a good few years she watched every single gruesome horror movie she could get her hands on. I'm not sure if she's seen any on this list though.

Both "Funny Games" and "Untraceable" are movies with sick scenes of human suffering, and they offer commentary on how our collective curiosity is to blame.

FG was good. Untraceable is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

That bad? I think I gave it a 2/5, so not among the worst for me.

Has anyone seen the Human Centipede movies? Rumour has it that the third one will have more than 100 people in the centipede, and Eric Roberts is in it.

Yes, 500, but the director has said it will not be as gross or disturbing as the 2nd installment. This time he'll be looking to offend through the characters themselves, I'm preparing for it to attack cultures, races, religions, and political beliefs of all sorts - or just probably a handpicked assortment of them.
