It should have been higher than 18, but as I can't remember hearing any Rush on British radio or TV since about 1980, perhaps it is surprising that it did as well as that. Most of the higher placed entries are very well known and frequently heard on radio and used as incidental music on TV, in adverts, at sporting events etc.

There was also a short, pre-recorded talk from Geddy about how they came up with the riff.

Yes in the UK, after Signals it was like they vanished. They didn't tour again until 1988 and did little to promote Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows or Hold Your Fire. When Roll the Bones came out people's response was, 'Are they still going?'

Yeah 18 isnt too bad at all for the uk bearing in mind competition.. i'd have personally had it top ten but in a quality field like that, a rank of 18 is a real mark of respect in the uk.

Does anyone know how to view the list? All I see are a bunch of comments filled with hashtags and other symbols

It seems as though the rankings are interspersed with the comments. What a poor presentation.

To see the list go to BBC.co.uk/radio2 and click on the link.

Oh! Sorry, not a Brit here. Didn't understand that it was "Radio 2: greatest riffs" rather than "Radio: 2 greatest riffs". I think a colon in the title would have done well to help... Edited by len(songs)

I thought the zero was missing from "20 Greatest Riffs".

The full list is bullshit! Paranoid is the only Sabbath riff listed and there's no way that's the best Sabbath riff.

And no Judas Priest at all...

It's basically a popularity chart, it's nothing to do with riffs.

Me too... I was just joking around with the "18 of 2" thing to be honest. But the other comments were serious.

Calm down, calm down as we say in Liverpool. Sure these lists are crap but the fact that Rush not only made it onto the list but got into the top 20 is the amazing thing.

TSOR has a way better riff than a lot of these songs...

I used to listen to Radio 2 - I guess I must've missed most of it because I never once heard anything by Rush.
