This list confuses me.

Why......I think you were confused by me before, lol  I'm not making fun......but i believe that's the 2nd time i've dumbfounded you, lol

Mick

Haha. Just a little confused by Hemispheres getting a mere 3 stars, less than PeW and PW. I was thinking you were just into the 80's era til I saw MP with only 3 and Caress of Steel with 4. Also surprised there was not even one 5 star review.

Not questioning your list or judging it, I just can't get a feel for your list.

Ok I can answer. COS is the only perfect album Rush made in the 70's. Love every note. Hemispheres gets a three cause i can't stand the title track. at all. Side two is perfection though. PeW Is my fav rush album with PW a very close second. Finally MP is not perfect to me......see Witch Hunt.

Hope that helps a tiny bit, lol

Last question. How can you love every note on an album and not rate it a five?

I will let the title track on Hemispheres and Witch Hunt go. The pain in my chest is too strong to try to change your opinion there.

The real question is how PoW's second side doesn't take it out of perfect contention.

Clockwork Angels ★★★★☆

I think my list is fair! Clockwork Angels loses half a point due to production. I think it ridiculous to rate an album completely low due to sound quality. If the songs are awesome enough, they should shine in spite of poor production! (Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat by the Juliana Theory and Magic by Bruce Springsteen also share similar faults, but one me over due to the strength of the material!).

Hold Your Fire is an odd one. Very mediocre and yet I go through phases when I think it a beautiful album! Presto gets a higher rating from me than most fans, losing out on a perfect score mainly due to Superconducter, which is such an irritating song after a while, and sounding far to thin, especially considering this is 80's era Rush!

Caress Of Steel I feel deserves a full score, but in all honesty I prefer 2112, which I deem to be less than perfect, so I ranked them equal!

Vapor Trails has hideous technical issues. So why half a star? Because even if the songs were produced to the same high standard as Moving Pictures, I would still give it a mere half a star. I really don't like it at all, including the remix version!

Rush, Fly By Night and Snakes And Arrows are ok albums, but overall they fail to keep my interest for the entiretcourse of a single listen. But they have some amazing songs! I can't deny them that!

Power Windows is pretty perfect, but on the whole fails to move me in the same way as the best of the 80's bunch do.

Test For Echo? Not even a guilty pleasure: I love the album! The music is terrific, and the mumbo jumbo lyrics of Totem, Dog Years and Virtuality are extremely fun to listen to! Unlike Vapor Trails, I can honestly say that I enjoy the weaknesses for what they are, i even considered giving it a fiur and a half, until i realised that would put it on the same level as 2112 or Hemispheres!

A Farewell To Kings through to Moving Pictures is a spectacular run, with Hemispheres losing a half point simply because I have often tired of the title track long before its over.

Grace Under Pressure and Signals are spellbinding at their best, but for some reason Signals lacks a certain something that the full five star albums have. Grace Under Pressure on the other hand is an incredibly cold sounding album, the perfect reflection of the albums darker than normal lyrics! A perfect album in my book.

Counterparts to me is a good set of songs. Solid, but nothing more than that! Roll The Bones has some dreck, but its bouncy, poppy vibe and the absolute perfection of the first three tracks make it an incredibly unorthodox career high for Rush! If you don't agree with me, I really couldn't care less!

Feedback barely qualifies, but I sense the old school Rush spirit. It is a decent listen, and just the right length!

On the whole, I believe Rush are the most consistent band to have a decades long career. This was fun to compile guys!

I have a strong feeling that Rush will be announcing something soon....

Why? Just a feeling or have you seen clues?

A very, very strong gut feeling.

So remember, if they do, you heard it first from Lorraine. :)

Different Stages disc 1 and 2 ★★★★ 1/2

Rush in Rio ★★★★★

Snakes And Arrows Tour ★★★★

Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland ★★★

Clockwork Angels Tour ★★★★★

Some context:

ATWAS has some good tracks on it like 2112, Something For Nothing, By-Tor, and In The End. The other ones on there I'm not a fan of (I REALLY hate In The Mood). Never liked the medley of Working Man and Finding My Way but the drum solo at the end is great and a classic Professor on the drum kit.

DS d3: Geddy was a little obnoxious but he was apparently really sick that night so I'll give him a freebie. Great versions of all the tracks off of AFTK, though I still don't like Cinderella Man. The rest are just tracks off of ATWAS again but not as good. At least they dropped Lakeside Park.

Exit Stage Left: I really hate this one. All of the songs apart from Broon's Bane and La Villa Strangiato sound like rougher versions of the studio versions and it takes away the whole feel of a live concert. No thanks.

GUP Tour: This one I like. Great versions of The Enemy Within and Distant Early Warning and ESPECIALLY Witch Hunt. Vital Signs is great to see, and the YYZ/TOS/Tom Sawyer medley is fun. Alex sounds amazing on this one. Still hate In The Mood though.

A Show of Hands: They committed a huge crime here omitting like over half the show for this one. So many great live cuts that never made it on here like Lock and Key, Prime Mover, 2112, Territories, and instead we're given yet another recording of Closer To The Heart. It's not a bad song but I can see why the guys are sick of it, and I'm really not a fan of how they "electrified" the drums for it on this one. There are some good parts of this one like Marathon, Subdivisions, Big Money, Distant Early Warning, and another version of Witch Hunt that's good but not as good as GUP Tour.

DS d1&2: It's a shame it took 15 years to get a live version of Limelight. This one kicks some serious ass. Good versions of The Trees, Analog Kid, Animate, Stick It Out, and the Test For Echo songs are all good live. Natural Science is good to see brought back, and this version of Closer To The Heart, while again, a very tired song, is pretty good. And oh yeah, they played all of 2112 :D :D :D

Rush in Rio: THAT CROWD THOUGH. Seriously, it's almost unbelievable how crazy awesome it is to hear a crowd this ravenous sing along to Tom Sawyer and Closer To The Heart (and YYZ :rfl:) The boys were on fire this night. Fantastic versions of Roll The Bones, Earthshine, Secret Touch, Natural Science, Red Sector A, and La Villa Strangiato. This is probably my favorite Neil drum solo out of all of them, and that By-Tor/Cygnus/Working Man medley at the end is pretty good. I am also a fan of how they did Resist, and think its 10x better than the regular version.

R30: A lot of people bag on this one cause the setlist is similar to Rush in Rio's, but this one has just enough new stuff to keep it at 5 stars. The overture is great, then some great versions of Force Ten, Animate, Subdivisions, and this version of Red Barchetta sends shivers up and down my spine. Mystic Rhythms and Between The Wheels are both very pleasant entries here, the return of Grand Finale, and XANADUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. Then they perform a nice version of Crossroads and close it off with what I think should close every Rush concert: Limelight. The one thing I think this one does better than Rio is Alex's guitar. Sounds much better and little clearer on this one.

S&A Live: More great entries here, Entre Nous, Digital Man, a better version of Mission, and while I'm not a huge fan of the downtuned version, Circumstances. Some songs just don't sound that great downtuned. They can make it work with 2112, but not so much for this one I think. Great versions of the S&A material, particularly TMMB, Far Cry, Workin' Them Angels, and MalNar. Bangkok with the Rickenbacker was also nice to see come back. The only problems I have with this one are the fact that it sounds too "airy", with the band sounding like they're playing far away and the crowd's a little too loud, but don't sound as energetic as Rio.

Time Machine: Another infamous live album with a sick Geddy. Some great stuff returns like Stick It Out, Faithless gets a good debut, BU2B lit a fire under our asses, Marathon, Camera Eye, and La Villa Strangiato are all good. CTTH rears its head again though, but the Lerxst solo beforehand with the 12 string is a nice touch.

Clockwork Angels Tour: Ahh, there we go. Back to greatness. Brilliant idea opening with Subdivisions and The Big Money, some great cuts from Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows, particularly Territories, WMT? is given a good live offering, and while a lot of people are sick of it, I'm a fan of Far Cry still. The CA stuff with the strings is all done very well, and these versions of The Anarchist, Clockwork Angels, and Headlong Flight are fantastic. The Garden is done well, too, and I really think they shouldn't ever play it again cause it doesn't work without the strings. The strings almost gave me a heart attack on how good they made Dreamline sound, probably the best version of that song. After that it's more of the usual from Red Sector A-2112, but then we get a great string'd up version of Manhattan Project, and while Geddy had some trouble, Middletown Dreams was good too. A lot of people bitched about this album cause of Geddy's voice, but I think for at least 90% he sounded fine. He had some noticeable trouble on Middletown, Seven Cities, and sadly, The Spirit of Radio. He really pulled it together for 2112, which redeems his performance of TSOR. And The Grand Finale finishes it all off with a blistering Lerxst solo. Good job boys.

Sorry...but a bad Rush album IS bad by anyones standards. Vapor Trails might be an important milestone historically for the band, but musically it just...plain...sucks!

I agree Segue. VT is audio vomit. sound quality aside......I just don't like a single song. Not one.
