"A rare phasmid" is a line from Mastet and Commander, and the actual species

Sea Beans

Entada sp.

Large leguminous vines related to the green bean, sea beans grow throughout the coastal tropics of the Americas and Africa. The seed pods are 3 to 6 feet long, and the seeds themselves can float and remain viable for two years, establishing the sea bean on all manner of alien shores.

Magnificent edible. Easy to spot. Yeah it's "weird" if you don't live in the woods. Normal foraging fare for me. Pick 'em, clean 'em. Excellent fried or in soups. Great sautéed in butter served over alfredo and pasta. Fine, decadent eating.

8 morels today. Very dark caps.

I guess it's time to expand my mycological horizons. I'll have to keep an eye out for those this year. They grow at the base of trees in early autumn?

Taste is a question to ponder. But what about the gas these things have in store?

Can anybody say Manhattan Project?
