I am going to celebrate Valentine's Day with a busy day...first I'll go horseback riding, then to brunch at some friends' place (they're making homemade waffles), and I'll top it off by going to Lamps Plus with my mom to check out the clearance sale. Woo.

Here's one of my rants that I recently wrote for my website - http://ruggeddude.com/rugged-rant/valentines-day/

Not afraid to speak my mind, eh?

"Hey, you want a few laughs? This year on February 14th, go to your local Wal Mart, Shoppers Drug Mart or some other place that sells Valentine’s Day cards. Go there about 5pm or so when all the dudes are off work for the day and on their way home to see the “old lady.” You’ll see about 15 or 20 guys, wearing jeans and bush jackets, Cat Diesel Fuel ball caps and the pre-requisite pack of smokes in the top pocket. They’ll all be standing there, staring at “the big wall” of cards with a scared “shitless” look on their face… barely moving, almost like they’re caught in some kind of bizarre, futuristic force field or something. I swear, some of these guys must just close their eyes and pick one!"

Funny rant!

I agree about V Day being a steaming pile. Yes, do something nice for your significant other on some random day because you want to; don't do it one day a years just because the media tells you to.

I hate Valentine's day in the middle of February because it's really difficult to steal fresh flowers from the cemetary this time of year.

After being married for 12, 13, 14...ish years you tend to go through the motions on these 'special' days. When you're married as have the means to buy what you need, you tend to run short of new ideas for gifts. But we muddle through it ok.

"hey, here's some chocolates. thanks. love you. what's for dinner?'

No... not that I remember. You may have read it somewhere else because people do take things from my site and repost it elsewhere.
