Good Times, Bad Times

The Rover

I think I like the first album as much if not more than anything that came after.

Tea For One from Presence. A nice, long, bluesy jam with a great vocal delivery from Plant.

That whole album (minus Achilles Last Stand and Nobody's Fault But Mine) is overlooked. Pretty awesome stuff. For Your Life, Royal Orleans, Tea For One, Candy Store Rock. Love that album.

Yes! Exactly. Tea For One was what I was going to say.

Most people think I'm bat-sh*t crazy when I say that my two favorite Zeppelin albums are Presence and Led Zeppelin III. But it's the truth.

I think "In the Light" from Physical Graffiti is often overlooked. As an album, Led Zeppelin III is often dismissed. I love the tunes "Tangerine" and "That's the Way", which I don't hear about too much.

In some ways, I actually prefer Led Zeppelin III to their fourth album, most likely because I just played their fourth album to death, like everyone else who loves Zeppelin.

I prefer any Zeppelin album to their 4th album, for the same reason you gave..... :D

The only songs I play from the 4th album are The Battle of Evermore and Going To California. All the others have been "retired". When I'm driving, and the radio station starts playing Stairway To Heaven, I change the station immediately. I just can't listen to it anymore.....

I have zero tolerance for ANY Zep in the car, just can't do it. I have no problem with Stairway in small doses

"Hey Hey What Can I Do"

"No Quarter"

"Ozone Baby"

The previously mentioned "Fool in the Rain".

I, for the life of me, cannot recall a Led Zeppelin song titled "Ten Years After", but I do love "Ten Years Gone".

Like Mr. IsNot, "Ten Years Gone" is my favorite Zeppelin track.

I'll second "Hey Hey What Can I Do". Always one of my favorites but because it wasn't on an lp it doesn't seem to be part of the regular cannon (perception, not fact, obviously).

Stairway to Heaven

Black Dog

Rock and Roll

Whole Lotta Love

In truth, there are none. Like the Beatles, the Zeppelin catalog has been analyzed pretty thoroughly. There aren't a whole lot of truly "deep tracks."

True. I noticed that, like The Beatles, each individual LZ song has it's own wikipedia page.

Also, I noticed that in the "Overlooked Deep Purple Songs" thread a lot of conversation about songs as well as albums was sparked, and I figured this would be a good way of doing that with Led Zeppelin as well. Probably more effective to do this than just starting a thread blatantly saying "Let's talk about LZ's discography! ...Alright, where to start?". Similarly a favorite songs thread would have yielded a lot of what you put there, songs that we already know well about as opposed to, not per se deep tracks, but certainly not played to death.

In a local guitar shop to where I live they once put a sign up several signs that read "NO STAIRWAY", this sign was directed at people who wanted to test the guitars.

Doesn't it say that in the guitar shop in Wayne's World? I seem to recall him getting reprimanded by someone in the store for playing it.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about that scene. Now I wonder if it was a reference or if they actually wanted people to not play it. Probably both.

My pick as well. I also think Living Loving Maid was overlooked, but not by the fans but by the band. They didn't like it very much and as a result didn't play it live very often. A shame in the opinions of many fans including me cuz I always thought it was an excellent tune. Edited by driventotheedge

Didn't know the band disliked it.

Also, even though it gets lots of attention, I think Achilles Last Stand is 99% as awesome as Kashmir. A+ heavy prog.

Psssst...it's even a smidgen better :D-13:

I appreciate your argument, but Kashmir (and the Rain Song) have mellotron. And metal mellotron trumps everything. :nya nya:
