So many ummm problematic patrons with tats used to come in the library where I worked ( we were right next to the courthouse.) I tried to teach my kids not to judge people but I finally told my daughters, "Please DO judge people with neck tattoos! They don't have good decision making skills !" It seems kind of strange to read something and then take the time to compare it to something else, find it wanting, and then decide to laugh because you feel it grades well in relation to a curve. It isn't always immediately upon seeing it, and could take a while, but there is a moment when the humor becomes clear that the reaction becomes spontaneous. I think the Supreme Court should be, all political parties, the European Court of Human Rights; anyone that takes life seriously. Our job as the population is to mock anyone who has any influence or power. It`s why I`ve been such a terrible follower of any religion, a poor employee, and a very average son and husband too. I also agree with the premise that those who have the power are those you're not allowed to make fun of, and many of those are not traditionally seen as having power, in fact, they take great care to make sure their "oppression" is known far and wide.
