"GRAPHIC NOVEL"

Arrgghh... A comic book by any other name.

So called "graphic novels" are written by people that can't actually write, for people who can't read books without pictures.

I can't belive that Peart signed off on this shit.

Why wouldn't he? He signed off on the original book!

Seeing as I like both the music and the aesthetic in the last tour (and the pictures in the CD) better than the book, I think that less words and more pictures are a win-win for all of us.

Agreed...if well-done, this could be a much better companion to the CD than the novel, especially going off Hugh's existing artwork.

A graphic novel IS a comic book for sure. But your other comment is total wank and you know it.

The book itself would have been better as a comic book since it's so simplistically written. That's how they should have released it to start with. It's a pitiful excuse for a sci-fi book.

I think you might be just a tad naive into what goes into writing comics/graphic novels. You aren't writing the way you write a book, you write a script closer to the way you would a movie. It's not easy, and you'd probably suck at it.

I never considered anything in Clockwork Angels epic enough for this type of treatment, but there's money to be made I suppose.

When's Rash going to make their first feature film? Maybe a couple funny hipsters trying to learn about themselves through their mutual respect and admiration for the band?

Oh yeah...

They are excellent tools to improve reading skills for people who struggle with reading. Plus, some people just like them. Don't buy it if you don't like them.

It could be argued and it has, that comic books, sorry "Graphic Novels" only serve to aid to the deteriment of "Reading Skills" among children and the reliance upon such as to avoid using one's immagination and cognitive skills.

I don't like them and I don't buy them.

But thanks for the advice...

Firstly, I am not remotely interested in what goes into the making of a graphic novel (masqeurading as a book) nor it's relevance to film stucture.

I have a problem with it being considered an "art form"

It appears to appeal to the those with so called "learning disabilities" ADD etc... Where American pharma takes over actual immagination.

Sad state of affairs.

Finaly yes, I would suck at it.

Not by anyone familiar with education research.

Yeah, really. Just because it isn't high falutin' enough for snobs doesn't mean it isn't art. That said, I wish they went with a different team for the 2112 thing, and wish they could get someone of Alan Moore's or Frank Miller's stature to do CA.

Batman appeared in '39 and Superman in '38. So you were on the money there.

One solid example of how wrong you are..... Road To Perdition by Max Allan Collins which was the basis of the movie staring Tom Hanks the book & movie adaptation both excellent.

So, you are saying that you want to just ignorantly dismiss an entire art form without bothering to know what goes into it? Good thing you are a mature adult.

Dscrapre, you cannot please everybody, unfortunately!

To be honest graphic novels are not my cup of tea, but even so I can see the skill and handiwork of telling a story entirely through pictures! I studied film and it amazes me to think it took the best part of a century for so called "experts" to regard film-making as an art form (and much debate still goes on with "higher minded" critics). Pffft. Some people close their minds before, or without, trying to understand. It's like when I hearhpeople dismiss rock and metal as mere noise before properly exploring said genres. Sure, on the surface both genres can appear abrasive and rebellious, but dig a little deeper and its amazing what talent and imagination fuels a lot of artists. On the one hand, we have Slayer, who live up to much of the sterotype (not questioning talent here, just sound). And then on the other, we have recent (uncategorizable) Anathema. And who would say the last two albums have cause to offend? But many choose to ignore what could otherwise have potential to be their favourite artist!

The world is full of wonder and invention, so we all have little time to discover everything. But I will admit if any decent titles come my way, I will check them out! Its good advice to keep an open mind. Otherwise bands like Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones and Rush would all have bit the dust decades ago!
