Edit: I'm not sure if there would be that much of a difference if any, between lossy formats and uncompressed? I would suppose that dynamic range doesn't care about frequencies but only RMS values. yetanothersteve Posted October 4, 2013 Author Share Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) 16 bit 44.1 khz is CD Audio. Itunes supports ALAC, same idea of encapsulating WAV as flac. Google FLAC ALAC and some converters will pop up in the list. Both the HDTracks and the new remix CD are missing the pops, clipping and do not hurt my ears. If only these versions had come out originally, but then what would we have had to complain about on these forums? Classical music will probably not benefit from a 5 db dynamic range (which is 5 db in difference from the quietest part to the loudest), and heavy metal will probably sound weak with a dynamic range of 20. 6 db is either double or half the sound pressure but the way our ears work, we need around 10 db to perceive a doubling or half of sound pressure.
