This is a no brainer for me: Caress of Steel. The majority of the album has never been played live, and we have only good recordings for about 8 of the 40 minutes of amazing, epic music on this album.

Having a great live version of this album would do the most to fill the hole of Rush music without good live versions available.

As much as I like Lamneth, I'm not sure I'd want to hear the whole thing live. Same with Necromancer. Most of the audience would  . I do wish they'd play snippets for us, though.

The crowd could snooze. I recently played the Necromancer for my friends and they asked me if I was trying to induce them to commit suicide.

It was a pong tournament so the answer was yes.

But still, I love the cinematic energy of the song. The beginning is meant to lull you to sleep, while the middle is an aggressive guitar assault. The end is the weakest section of the song for me, but it always seems romantically positive—the solos exude emotion...I just wish we had a great version live.

I love that early Rush tunes required continued attention...there were many short stories set to song. It's also one of things I love CA, and why I'm so happy that we have almost the entire album live.

Hey, if the crowd is going to snooze, I'll just push my way to the front and sing with Geddy and do air guitar/bass/drums. It'll be great. :D

I think a Concert where they play "sides" would be cool:

Set 1:

The Spirit of Radio

Freewill

Jacobs Ladder

Anthem

Best I Can

Beneath, Between and Behind

By-Tor and the Snowdog

Cinderella Man

Madrigal

Cygnus X-1

Ending Video: The Rocinante flies out of the Black Hole

Set 2:

Beginning Video: The Rocinante flies towards and lands on a weary world

Hemispheres (Suite)

Tom Sawyer

Red Barchetta

YYZ

Limelight

Drum Solo

Alex'solo/ A Farewell to Kings

Xanadu

Closer to the Heart (Extended)

Encore:

2112 (suite)

This is such a tough question. I can't help but think in terms of Geddy's voice, and how many older songs would need to be tuned down to accommodate him, but at the same time up until the last few years I was totally that fan who pretended like nothing after "Subdivisions" ever happened, and thus have a big spot in my heart for that era.

OK, 'classic prog rock loving' me would probably choose AFTK. I thought I heard they tried the title track a few tours ago in rehearsal but it was just too high, even with the D-tuned/2112 guitar and bass combo. Still, I love that song so much, and it's a shame it didn't last in the set list longer. But if they could do it I'd love to hear full versions of "Xanadu" and "Cygnus X-1."

And 'became that fan who loves pretty much everything they've dove' me would probably choose GUP. For an album I just didn't get for years it has grown to become one of my favourites. It's definitely my favourite of the synth era, and I think one of their greatest albums ever. Geddy singing "The Body Electric" on Clockwork Angels Tour makes yearn for "Afterimage," "The Enemy Within," "Red Lenses," and "Kid Gloves," too.

fantasy: Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres

Hey, they could play them both, take the set break, and then come out and spend another hour on a decent number of other things. You know, if they wanted to do something like that (hint, hint)...hahahaha...a show like that would clock in at 2:20, 2:30, something like that.

realism: Hold Your Fire or Counterparts. I would LOVE to hear either one.

How'd I know it was going to be Hemispheres?

2112 is the obvious choice.

Hemispheres is the contrarian "I'm a super-fan" choice.

Hemispheres is their most accomplished album as musicians. The musicianship on that album is staggering and they were like 26 when they wrote it. Performing it is daunting, writing it from a blank sheet of paper is unimaginable.

It's not the "I'm a super-fan" thing. It's the "Holy sh*t, this is amazing" thing!

I think you really understand it more if you're a musician yourself and try to learn it.
