New Dream Theater album

Recommended Posts

So the new album has the VERY original title of "Dream Theater"? I´m not sure if it´s a good idea, but I´ll try not to judge it by the name.

Tentative date of release is September 24th: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/news/dream-theater-album-20130605

Don't have a problem with the album title, although I admit the title is a bit of a downer considering all of their album names prior had awesome sounding names. Still, it's the music that counts...

Even though I haven't been listening to a lot of Dream Theater lately I'm still very excited about this! Hopefully it being self-titled will mean that it'll tread some new ground. I liked ADTOE but I wouldn't be too excited for another album like that.

Also, it's pretty interesting that DT and Queensryche - two of the biggest progressive metal bands - both have self-titled albums coming out this year.

You have to give them props for their new album being named Dream Theater. It shows confidence they're happy with this new direction they're taking. Can't wait for it's release!

It better be a little more heavy metal than last time... :madra:

yeah, weren't there 3 ballads on their last one? what the hell was up with that

If you count This Is The Life as a ballad (some people don't), then there was 3. Far From Heaven is less than 4 minutes long and Beneath the Surface is less than 6 minutes, so I don't see what the big deal is really. The album is 77 minutes long and people complain when there's like 15 minutes of ballads, yet if it there were no ballads people would complain that it lacks diversity. Can't please everyone!

Personally, I loved the ballads on ADTOE and I thought the mix of heavy songs to soft songs was great. I do hope there are a couple of good, heavy songs along the lines of Bridges in the Sky as that's one of my favorite recent DT songs.

It'll be cool just to see what non-Petrucci drum lines MM comes up with this time around.

Re: ADToE ballads- There were only 2 of them and they were good so who cares, man? :dweez:

I consider them more prog than metal, but I wouldn't want to see the metal influence completely eradicated. I'm guessing the album will be more proggy than the last few, but still fairly heavy.

The thought of DT doing polka is hilarious though.

Agreed on all counts.

Yeah, the self titled is annoying just because it's bland and I only appreciate self-titled albums when they're the debuts; then it makes sense and is easier to catalog.

I certainly have a new found appreciation for ADToE as time went on, for the same reason I didn't like it at first: It was Images & Words part II.

The band has a newfound freedom - especially Rudess - now that Pornoy is gone.

I can say this right now, the next album will be at the very least a good one.. It's not going to be as heavy as 2002-2009 which was the era that played itself out with more and more screaming slipping in.

Looking forward to this record... It'll be a good year for DT with this and the Luna Park Blu-Ray

The new album might beat Luna Park to the shelves the way things have been going lately :D
