Best Album For Geddy's Vocals

Grace Under Pressure. He seems to be able to convey the stress and hysteria that seems to be the central theme of that album.

Like Part 1 of the Fear Series and Red sector A

My overall favorite Rush album contains, in my opinion, Geddy's best vocals: Signals.

Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are close behind. Geddy also delivers some strong vocal performances on Hold Your Fire—Mission and Time Stand Still stand out.

Wow, this is a tough choice. There's the young, break a champagne glass with the high notes Geddy, then there's the slightly mature, more emotional depth Geddy, then there's today's Geddy who has come down into the more normal vocal range. :)

Of all that, I think it's a toss up between Signals and Permanent Waves.

Ack! So hard to choose! There are different styles that I like, like the afore-mentioned high 70s songs and the the 'poppier' 80s songs, and the dryness of the Presto / RtB era, not to mention the confident sound of the modern era.... I guess, if pressed to choose, I might go with Counterparts. The singing is very technically good, and a range that I can actually sing along to (or on my own, as I held a solitary rendition of as much of the album I could remember lyrically a few nights ago)... it just sounds really good. However, I might next choose Caress of Steel, as there's some really, really good early Geddy singing on it, particularly with 'The Fountain of Lamneth'. Then maybe Presto or Roll the Bones, as I like how his singing sounds so 'dry' and different from any other era.

I should make myself a compilation cd (or setlist or whatever people do these days!) of my favourite Geddy singing songs....

Well, ok, then. In random order, as I think of them (well, probably chronological order):

-Finding My Way ("finding my waaaayyyyyy!")

-Anthem ("new wonders of the world we wrrrrrooooouuuuugggghhhhhhttttttt!")

-Bastille Day

-The Fountain of Lamneth ("scream out desperation...")

-2112 (obv.!)

-Tears

-Cygnus X-1 ("like a spiral sea, unending!")

-Hemispheres

-Natural Science ("sensitive, open, and strong")

-Vital Signs ("everybody got to elevate from the norm")

-Chemistry ("oh, but how do we make contact with one another?")

-Digital Man ("he'd like a lover's wings to fly o-o-on")

-Red Sector A ("prayer to profanity-y-y")

-Mystic Rhythms ("capture my thoughts, carry them away!")

-Mission ("hold your fire!")

-Show Don't Tell ("I, the jury!")

-The Pass ("Christ, what have you done?")

-The Big Wheel ("Looking for lo-o-o-o-ove")

-Animate ("mermaid of the lunar sea")

-Everyday Glory ("we're the ones who have to fly")

-Resist ("but never, ever win / win without a fight")

-Time and Motion ("...and the long enduring kind")

-Ghost Rider ("from the lowest low to the highest high")

-How It Is ("such a cloudy day, seems we'll never see the sun")

-Heart Full of Soul

-Good News First ("but I still get this feeling there's more trouble ahead")

-The Anarchist ("...I never got my fair share of")

Easy for me.. Permanent waves, by a long way actually... The early unique sound of his reached full and glorious maturity in that album, after which he seems to do well with throat issues and a slightly less powerful sound

I do like his later singing voice in VT for example but the natural iconic sound we all know as Geddy Lee certainly reached its peak in permanent waves

Which is like, a totally biblical album of course.

Power Windows, Though I can swallow the higher stuff, I much prefer his melodic lower register and he nails it on this album, while still rocking

I think Hold Your Fire.

Actually anything before the advent of the thousand Geddys.

There can never be too many Geddys!! :chickendance: :chickendance:

Agreed! I love the thousand Geddys! Or Geddies, or whatever!
