D3strukt
So while in Land of the Rising Sun I was privy to these amazing acts (outside of the top 45.) One of them played Day 2 (the day I saw) of Ozzfest. Ningen Isu (人間椅子=Human Chair, or something.) BABYMETAL I saw on the TV. (Japanese Telly is very pleasant to watch, btw, especially the news.) First up, BABYMETAL. Apparently a split off of an Idol group, these girls (yes girls, two are 13, and one is 15) are f***ing brootal (yes, they're the ones playing the instruments.) They've got this Death Metal / Pop thing going on. They're cute as hell, but shit are they heavy. HEADBANGA! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2Tu-g-_rEE Other songs- Morning Heartbeat. (Doki Doki is japanese word for the sound of your heart. Kokoro こころ= Heart, in Japanese. Doki Doki is an onomatopoeia.) No More Bullying. NUMBER 2! NINGEN ISU: A band HEAVILY influenced by the works of Black Sabbath, Rush, King Crimson, and I want to say Iron Maiden, but that can only be applied very lightly, as their songs are pretty slow paced. I ended up buying 6 of their CD's while in Japan. These guys are like, I don't know, they're like Prog, and Metal, and Retro all mixed up with the Shinto Priest singing (which might throw some off, but try to get into it, because they're singing about hell, and religion and stuff. They're attempting to get "in character."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj38yXHT-_8 - Shinagawa Shinjuu. The verse melody sounds SO MUCH LIKE PAINT IT BLACK!!! Next up is FLOW. They're a pretty straightforward rock band but I still found them interesting enough to pick up their newest album, which to my delight is wonderful! JohnnyBlaze
I stopped reading after 'Japanese telly is pleasant to watch especially the news'. Sorry but don't mislead these nice TRFers. For each cool J-rock band there are a million shitty AKB48 type bands. And the news broadcasts are generic and extremely biased. Anyway...

I guess when you live there it can get boring, but as someone visiting, it was very refreshing to not hear about murders and stuff. In fact the only news I heard regarding troubles was the N. Korean situation. Something about the drills continuing or something, they spoke a bit too fast for me to make out. As for that AKB48 whatever stuff, i'm pretty sure I heard some of that on the way over. It wasn't really to my liking at all. Blegh.By the way, did you make it to Ozzfest, by any chance? Nah, didn't go to Ozzfest. The next festival that I might hit up is SummerSonic. Price is pretty steep for 1 or BOTH days of the event BUT you can get really close to the stage for many of the acts and the atmosphere is enjoyable

Is it an annual thing? Because I'll just push my Cherry Blossum trek back and go to the festival instead.
JohnnyBlaze
SummerSonic is always in August right around Obon. It's 2 days in Tokyo and Osaka. Half of the performers play in one of the 2 cities on Saturday then they alternate cities on the Sunday. The cool thing (in Osaka at least, don't know about Tokyo) is that all the stages are different: indoor, oudoor, semi-covered, etc. BUT all are within the same grounds. Check out the website for this year and previous years lineups. I went in '06. Then, there's Fuji Rock which is in late July or early August...but isn't truly near Fuji-san. Summer is hot as hell but there is a lot going on: various gigs, Obon, and the awesome fireworks in every city [do a little research on PL Fireworks and you'll probably see some unreal displays....'Niagara' is a firework explosion that really really looks like the falls when lit, and they take up a crazy amount of sky] which also happen in early August

Yeah, it's probably similar to Florida weather. extremely f***ing humid with little reprieve from the sun.I wanted to go to Mt. Fuji, but when I found out that it was like 100km away from Tokyo, yet still visible, I was like. "Well shit, it doesn't look that far...." I would like to see what the fuss is about Aokigahara. Fireworks are a favorite of mine, and a friend showed me some video he took in Okayama last year, it looked absolutely stunning. I was jealous. "You guys get all the good fireworks lol!" "Yeah, man we do. You should come over and see!" Man I need to do some serious money saving. That means I won't be able to spend a dime of my cash that I make. JohnnyBlaze
D3, I grew up in Jax, FL. It's still much more humid there.Other:- Everyone I've known who hiked up Fuji in August had it rain on them. In a few cases they weren't allowed to go all the way up because the weather was too dangerous. If you can't see the view from the top then there's completely no point in going.....because most hike at night (when there is no view) in order to see sunrise; AND locals don't seem to give a shit about littering. That bit isn't in the tourist guidebooks. Shameful. Go in July. The view looking down at sunrise is still the best thing I've seen in Japan. - Over the last few years some fireworks have taken the shape of Kitty-chan and smiley faces. Didn't think they could manipulate the explosions like that

MaxxQ
So, Babymetal opened their European tour yesterday with the show in Paris. There's quite a bit of video from the show available but I will be posting compilation vids, rather than individual. Some clips are of the same song but from different angles, some are cut short in one compilation, and longer in others. They're not all in setlist order http://youtu.be/iygmuDbl1FQ List of the clips:Ijime, Dame, ZettaiDoki Doki MorningUki Uki Midnight4 no Uta (Yui and Moa)IDZ (again)Babymetal Death (show opener)Onedari (Yui and Moa)Babymetal Death (again) http://youtu.be/RKfC9UwwsBA Last minute or so of Megitsune1:17 Doki Doki Morning4:19 Gimme Choco!!
