Rush and the Broken People

Late to this but Blue J I echo many thoughts you expressed I also went through horrible times my dad, brother, oldest nephew and sister all died in the years between TFE and Vapor Trails. I didn't think I could enjoy anything again but truly Rush brought me out of the hole and I was so glad to enjoy them live these last 10 years.

Nah, you're not late to this- this is a thread for all time, for anybody who wants to talk about why Rush is vital to them, like I've said- as opposed to those who think they're merely a great band. I'm sorry for all of your losses as well...but isn't it great that we have those three wonderful guys in the band who helped us get back to living?

I also have to say that I was surprised, pleasantly, by how many people have similar heart-wrenching details about their lives and have been willing to share them, in our little community here. Right on, right on...love to all of you.

Love to you to, Blue J!

This is a very special group, I think! :finbar:

I found Rush when I was about 10 and never got to see them live in the early years.

When I decided I really needed the connection of the live show it just happened to be just after the death of Neil's daughter. I remember thinking...oh no I will never get a chance to see my favorite band play live. When they came back for Vapor Trails I was so happy....but fate had a different plan my sister died suddenly right as that show was kicking off,

I was in such deep depression(my brother, dad, and nephew had already died in the previous 2 years) that I could not even think about going to see them. Looking back I really wished my DH had forced me to, I truly think that I would have come out of my depression faster.

I think the connection and amazement we feel when Rush nails our feelings in song, just indicates that we are not alone...no matter how bad things seem that there are others who feel the same way. Thank god for boards like this that allow us to connect and feel not so alone.

A perfect reminder, too, of how freakin' awesome Rush fans are!

Oh we are the best, aren't we??? :coy: No wonder why they always mention us in their interviews. Has anyone else here noticed how often we are brought up? I have. :)

Well, they're one of the smartest bands ever. So they're not exactly going to forget what makes them so successful. I can't stand artists who are dicks to their fans, then whine about not being appreciated. Glad this forum isn't on one of those, or it probably would have gotten some idiotic cease-and-desist by now.

The past while, I have been going through a very hard time. A really hard time. Don't ask me what it is exactly that is wrong because I honestly don't know if it is any one thing. Rather, it is a combination of many different things.

My point in writing this is to say that some music has the effect of pushing you over the edge. Some music pulls you back from the edge. Rush is the latter. They give you the will to go on.

Pack up all those phantoms

Shoulder that invisible load

Keep on riding north and west

Haunting that wilderness road

Like a ghost rider

Carry all those phantoms

Through bitter wind and stormy skies

From the desert to the mountain

From the lowest low to the highest high

Like a ghost rider

Keep on riding North and West

Then circle South and East

Show me beauty, but there is no peace

For the ghost rider

Shadows on the road behind

Shadows on the road ahead

Nothing can stop you now

There's a shadow on the road behind

There's a shadow on the road ahead

Nothing can stop you now

Sunrise in the mirror

Lightens that invisible load

Riding on a nameless quest

Haunting that wilderness road

Like a ghost rider

Just an escape artist

Racing against the night

A wandering hermit

Racing toward the light

From the White Sands

To the Canyonlands

To the redwood stands

To the Barren Lands

Sunrise on the road behind

Sunset on the road ahead

There's nothing to stop you now

Nothing can stop you now

Thank you, Neil.

Out of sync

With the rhythm of my own reactions

With the things that last

And the things that come apart

Out of sync

With love in the land of the living

A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart

A healing hand, a secret touch on the heart

There is never love without pain

Life is a power that remains

Time is a gypsy caravan

Steals away in the night

To leave you stranded in Dreamland

Distance is a long-range filter

Memory a flickering light

Left behind in the heartland

I love those particular lyrics too.

Eagle, I love that song. I FINALLY today, courtesy of the infamous Black Friday sales, got the Roll the Bones CD. As soon as I hear that song, my eyes fill with tears. So much of it I can relate to.
