Mohehan Sun - Policies Questions For Anyone Who Has Seen Concerts There

At just about every Rush show I've been at, a large section of the audience is smoking pot. Does anyone know if the venue is permissive in that regard or not?

Also, does anyone know if you leave the Arena can you get back in? The website says that some events do allow this.

I can't imagine any venue advising their security staff to ignore pot smoking. Even cigarette smoking is a fire code violation. Since no one is smoking cigarettes it makes it a lot easier to spot the pot smoker. The answer to your quandary lies inside a delicious confection.

Have you ever been to a Rush show without copious amounts of weed, indoors or out? I never have, and this will be #13 for me. Anyway, I don't know how to make edibles. Shit, I don't know how to make normal brownies.

Have you really been to a lot of rush shows lately?

I just saw the last four shows and there was no one smoking pot inside the seating area...

its become very obvious where the pot smoke is coming from since cigarettes are not allowed anymore....

on the contrary, if you happen to go during intermission to an outside smoking area, which most places have these days, that is a different story...plenty of pot being smoked along side the cigarettes...

I am not even sure that mohegan sun has a smoking area although i am sure they must, their website says smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas of the entire casino...

All my shows are since 2007. Philly, MSG, Bridgeport, Newark...lotsa of indoor places. People still smoke cigarettes, but not many. But the pot was everywhere.

There are plenty of places to smoke in the casino, but there is no smoking area at the casino. The only chance is if they allow reentry.

I am just giving you a heads up.....for 2012, 2013, I have seen a dramatic decrease in smoking inside the seating area during the shows....

maybe its different in the nose bleeds, but down on the floor and in the lower bowl seating near the stage, there is no smell or clouds of smoke anymore....

that's just my observation...once in a while, you can smell a cigarette or a little pot smell, but hardly ever these days....

and you don't want to make yourself obvious to the arena personnel working the floor...

Thanks for the heads up. But in 2012 at the indoor places I mentioned above, there was more pot than ever. Didn't matter if I was on the floor (Bridgeport), in the nosebleeds (Philly), or in between (Newark). And at 2 of those places you can smoke in designated areas in the building...but in those places it was tons of cigarettes and very little pot. However, I agree that I don't see many cigarettes in the venues themselves. There are some, but there's 10 times the pot.

And I will be careful tonight as I've seen people get kicked out of Mohegan Sun before. Two girls rushed into an empty men's bathroom to take a quick pee and got booted. It was before the show and it seemed very heavy handed to me. A simple, "please get out" would have sufficed. I also know that a kid got kicked out at a DMB concert at Mohegan Sun, where I believe you are forced to smoke pot if you're over 18. That's why I'm posting these questions as the rumor is that this place is much more hard ass than any other place around.

Ahh the good ole days!

LOL

Remember the lighters?

My first Rush concert was c. 1980 and back then they didn't even have floor seating, you got tix in the stands and if you wanted to go down to the floor and stand you were free to do so and make your way as close to the stage as possible.

Honestly, I don't think that it was just the money that made them put in floor seats, but the people pushing up against the stage often compromising its stability and therefore everyone's, including the band's, safety. If they brought that [smoking] environment back perhaps people wouldn't be so pushy.

Anyway, the arenas smelled like Amsterdam Hookah Bars.

You were right. This was almost a smoke free show. Lotsa security and younger family members. Great energy though, and it was a great venue. The improv blew my mind! Can't wait to see them again.

Hey LedRush, I just got home at 2:45am and you know what, I was surprised to the contrary of what you observed....

where I was, 6th row in front of geddy, there wasn't much security at all, just a female usher who didn't really know how to keep control of her aisle as many people were coming forward to video and take pictures....

I also noticed the smoking area outside was crowded and only one female person in a yellow jacket who didn't seem interested in doing anything to stop anyone as she kinda just stood to the back of the area.....so, compared to a venue with massive police force and state troopers etc...i thought the casino environment overall was fairly laid back....

just my observation.....

nevertheless, its up to you to kinda figure out the vibe of each venue and have some good sense of what you can and can not do...

my hubby was telling me one time he and a group of friends went to a Rush show and they had a few doobies to share. One of his friends was at the end of the aisle next to 2 security guys and was terrified to do it, jeff said he went right next to security and took a few tokes. The guys just couldn't care less.

I think it all depends on where you go. (I for one would love to toke up a little at intermission. talk about a gooooooooood buzz!!! lol)

you are 100% correct...

it has everything to do with where you go....

example.....farm bureau live at virginia beach....

on the way in, they have these huge signs that says ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY, the use of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited....

so, you couldn't more scared to do that there, right?

well....the entire concessions area is considered a smoking area...during intermission, i saw a young guy security guy sitting on a chair watching things from a long distance away....

around me, trees, fences, people smoking cigarettes....and other things....no issues, no problems, whatever you wanted to do, no problem, plenty of room for everyone....

so, despite the huge sign on the way in....and i am sure they have the policy....but, as long as you are smart about it.....mission accomplished....

This is the first Rush concert that I've ever been to where I didn't smell any ... er ... unique and distinguishable smells. I did smell a cigarette at one point. Least fragrant Rush show ever. An awesome show though and a great energy. A great night!

As mentioned...in the actual seating areas, there really is no massive smoking anything anymore and i think the general attitude of the arena personnel is that they would like to keep it that way....

everything really changed once the seating areas became cigarette free....

i remember the spectrum in phily, 1986, blue oyster cult opening for rush...the amount of smoke, cigarettes, pot, cigars, whatever, was insane....

it is nice to be in a more smoke free environment, i think its funny during tom sawyer when alex fakes smoking a joint and coughing all over himself, i'm thinking, yo alex, we can't do that anymore in here.....

I always remember the thick haze when the lights came up at the end of the show back back during those years. :smoke:

Quite different today. As long as someone isn't a moron about it, I have no issue with a little :smoke: when the lights are down and the band is rocking. Much preferable to a drunk idiot around me, imo. Mellow and grooving. Jah man.

I don't want to smell a cigarette and that even bugged me even before we had smoke-free venues.

I think you've got the right idea....

as long as someone isn't ruining it for others, can't really see what a puff of smoke over the crowd is going to do....

cigarettes and drunks are way more annoying....

during the entire clockwork angels portion of the show, i had this drunken idiot yelling for every rush song they weren't going to play.....

"RED BARCHETTA, CLOSER TO THE HEART, FREEWILL, THE TREES, XANADU."

it was so annoying, just shut up and enjoy the show, or go somewhere else and be a drunken moron....

I caught a few whiffs over the last 30 minutes of the concert, but I agree completely that this was the least fragrant show I've been to.

I would have whipped out my phone, shown him the setlist, and asked him to stfu. That's the worst.

I had a couple of young kids and a middle aged dude who knew all the lyrics, all the chords, all the fills. It's great having energy like that around you.
