What's the Best New Wave Song?

I love The Fixx. They are my favourite of the "80s" bands. I still listen to Reach The Beach to this day. I *love* the guitar work, the bass lines and Cy's vocals.

Here's two of my favourites from them:

<snip>

I'm almost positive they, along with A Flock of Seagulls, opened for The Police on the Synchronicity tour. I saw that show at what was then Sullivan Stadium in Foxborough. Good show.

I saw that tour in Mesa, AZ at a minor league baseball field. It was great! Howard Jones, The Thompson Twins and The Police. There was another band on the bill too, and I think it was A Flock of Seagulls.

And I totally get labt's frustration with advertising ruining a great song. I think the most egregious is Rhapsody in Blue (one of the finest compositions by an American composer) which an entire generation knows as "the United Airlines song" :facepalm:

And to me, The Cars are new wave. So are Talking Heads, Blondie, The Police and The Pretenders (especially the first album). There were hard rock edges to their music but also a punk attitude with great musicianship. At least, that's my definition of new wave.

The Pretenders with a definite new wave feel:

And one of Andy Summers coolest guitar solos. It goes nowhere! :haz:

Boy this stuff takes me back to a time when I was a much younger man. Sigh. BTW, just my opinion but I don't see The Cars as New Wave. Straight rock to me.

:yes: Me too.

The keyboards and vocals reflect the New Wave spirit, I think. "Moving in Stereo" is a good example.

Not much of an INXS fan. But I like this tune.

In Tacoma it was the Fixx and Thompson Twins. Great show!

I know exactly where that location in the til Tuesday video is. The apartment is located on Concord Square in South End in Boston. I used to live two blocks from it. The restaurant is Davio's when it was located on Newbury Street (it's relocated since then). And the "Carnegie Hall" footage was shot in the Strand Theatre in Dorchester.

I didn't know that was Davio's. Of course, I lack any semblance of culture, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

TT's debut album had another great song called Love in a Vacuum.
