Etess Arena in Atlantic City. How bad is it?

I decided to pass on tickets to the Baltimore show to make a cool weekend in Atlantic City. Etess Arena holds 5,000 so it seemed like a small venue would be nice. I went with cheap seats since the place was so small. Once I started some research I was surprised to find almost no reviews of this place. The little bit of information I have gleaned makes it sound like this is a miserable place to see a show. Rush played there in 2008. Does anyone have any good information on this venue? Much thanks.

keep in mind its not a hockey arena, its just a large empty square room with grandstands brought in to surround the floor seats. the side stage you are used to in a hockey arena are not the same in that the floor in AC is much wider, like a football stadium and there are only 30 rows of floor so if you sit on the grandstands directly across from the stage, you are elevated off the floor people but not as far away as a hockey arena.....

overall, its not a bad venue, you can easily find free parking in the casinos, but it is an unusual set up, its neither a hockey barn or outdoor shed....just an oversized type ballroom set up for a concert....holds under 5,000 people...

I loved the 7/4/2008 show, but the venue is a rectangle with the stage on one of the long sides.

There only reasons I went then was because I'd never seen them in a venue that small and I scored a ticket near the front of one of the three sections that made it worthwhile.

I wasn't so lucky this year, so I'm saving money for a different show.

So if I'm in section 104, row 2, I'm assuming that's one of those three good sections. Yes or no? In other words the stage is wide enough that I'm in front of it, rather than having to look at a right angle the whole show, with Neil blocked from view completely.

It looks like the middle section (103) is only 16 seats wide. The sections beside them (102 & 104) should be directly infront of the stage.

That looks different than the other charts I saw, but that's great! On the other hand there's someone on stubhub with 8 seats in the front row and/or 2nd row for more than one of those sections, which doesn't bode well for VIP package buyers. I got a single off stubhub the first night of the presale, so I wouldn't have to get stuck in the 15th row like I did in Newark.

I'm surprised Rush is playing such a small venue.

I'm tellin' ya!

Reminds me of a "back in the day" show.

Sounds interesting.

I ended up going w/ Baltimore. Got a pair in section 229 smack in the center of the front row. That's the section directly across from the stage. No need to stand for that one if my son and I don't want to.

i was at the forth of july show in 08. had floor seats.it's an ok venue. they couldn't use part of the lighting rig cause the place or stage was to small.Hope they can use the big tv things they have in the show. that show most of the front two rows were vacant cause they left those seats for high rollers. well most of them didn't show up.bet they wont do that this time.

If you have seats in the first 15 or 20 rows for Secs 102, 103 or 104, you'll be fine. The problem with this place is that it was a venue designed for boxing, not concerts. That's why it s a big square room. If you have seats in 101 or 105 or any of the side sections, you will be sorely disappointed with your viewing angle. The back sections are ok for viewing, but are all the way in the back. Quite frankly they would have been better off playing Revel. A 5500 seat venue designed for concerts, not boxing. I got lucky and managed to score two seats in Sec 104 Row 3 during the general sale, so I'm pretty happy. Edited by rush35x

How bad is 105 realistically? I have Row 15, at the end of the section (13&14)... I'm wondering whether I've made a mistake :/

The seating chart you posted is highly deceiving. The stage actually ends halfway down secs 102 and 104 respectively at around the 8th seat in each section. This is much more accurate:

I'm not quite sure how you got the blueprints to the place but nice job. I paid $79 for my tickets up in section S. Shouldn't be too bad I hope.

Last time I saw a show at the Etess arena was the Yes Union tour in 91. My wife and I thought the venue was cool but it was set up in the round, with the revolving round stage in the middle. Every seat in the house had a great view. I think we saw the Moody Blues there prior to Yes but not 100% sure. All I remember is that we saw the Moody's at an AC casino. I do have tix to the upcoming Rush show, four of which that I'm selling. The four seats are in section 101, row 21. E-mail me at rnj2112@gmail. com if interested. The tix are listed on StubHub and TicketsNow, I believe for $275 each, but I would reduce the cost for a forum member.

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse with this but I'm a Rush fan with tickets in hand and not a day goes by that I don't think about my next show. Perhaps you understand.

I made a few calculations based on the blueprint above. Apparently this venue is 300' wide and 210' long. The ceiling is 40' high. If my calculations are correct, the 30 rows of floor seats extend back approximately 105'- just over the length of a basketball court. If you are in the last row of the farthest section straight on from the band you are approximately 150' from the stage. The elevated sections on the sides and outside floor sections (101 and 105) have a pretty extreme angle to see the stage, but are close nonetheless. If you don't have VIP seats it would guess sections L-S would be your best bet. With a teacher's salary and two kids I can't manage to afford expensive seats so this should be a great opportunity to seem them close for relatively cheap.

Now I just need to find someone with an Atlantic City timeshare they aren't using!

Well as my luck would have it (and usually does), my seat is on the outside aisle of 104, so unless they extend out the stage sideways a bit, I'll be past the end of it judging by the floor plan link above.

I'm still trynig to figure out why Rush is playing such a small venue, but who cares, I guess... small venues are great places to see your favourite band. There is a very nice theater in Thunder Bay that holds only 1,500. We do get the occasional big act in there (Heart just last month, for example, we also had Alice Cooper, Thorogood, ELP, Jeff Beck, Benatar, Slash, etc) and every single seat is a good one.

Is there a meet-up before this show ? I'm staying at the Borgata ( a friend has a room for the night so I have a bed ) and I'm going solo to the show.

Less than 2 weeks left! Anyone getting that excited feeling yet?

Absolutely!!!! The excitement is killing me and the wait is too!!! I have AP exams on the monday after the concert and my teacher was like "Over that weekend you need to study as hard as possible." But to me it sounded like "Blah, Blah, Blah." So, I'm probably going to just have the time of my life and not worry about them. It is what it is (and whatever). :7up: I'm so stoked though, its only my 2nd time seeing the guys live!
