laughedatbytime
One of the things I was struck by in once again listening to "Dog Years" is the lack of a mention of a breed. Since there is so much diversity in the breeds, and diversity in life spans for that matter, the song could take on a much different meaning if you think he had in mind a Great Dane vs say a Bichon Frise. So, TRF, which breed do YOU feel that Neil had in mind while composing the lyrics?
Thunder Bay Rush
I don't know the lyrics very well (not a fave Rush song), but I'm pretty sure Neil had a golden retreiver. Could be that one.. or, knowing the way he writes, he was probably just making a statement about dogs in general.

subdivisor
Wasn't it a German Shepard?.. There is a pic of one in the T4E booklet for that song
MMCXII
Seriously? Ged and Neil have both talked abut how ambiguous lyrics make a great song.. If you're looking for a breed you're looking the wrong way and you probably are missing the point of the lyrics altogether! Maybe this is why most people hate the song..?

upstateNYfan
He actually mentions the type of dog he had in Ghost Rider (it wasn't a shepard). Not sure if that had anything to do with Dog Years, but he talks about his dog a bit.
