Batman
Two of my fav. everyday glory In the house where nobody laughs And nobody sleeps In the house where love lies dying And the shadows creep A little girl hides shaking With her hands on her ears Pushing back the tears 'Til the pain disappears Mama says some ugly words Daddy pounds the wall They can fight about their little girl later Right now they don't care at all open secrets It went right by me At the time it went over my head I was looking out the window I should have looked at your face instead
TheBodyElectric
"Today's Tom Sawyer he gets high on you and the space he invades he gets by on you." kyracat
I actually have two, I love both. "Too many hands on my time Too many feelings Too many things on my mind When I leave I don't know What I'm hoping to find When I leave I don't know What I'm leaving behind..." ~Analog Kid and "Growing up it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided The future pre-decided Detached and subdivided In the mass production zone Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone" ~Subdivisions both on the album "Signals"
clearingsky
On the lighter side, I love the idea that we can get inside a dog's brain. In a dog's brain A constant buzz of low-level static One sniff at the hydrant And the answer is automatic And when Geddy sings, I'd rather be a tortoise from Galapagos Or a span of geological time than be living in these dog years I just think that is a funny and memorable line
Ghost of a Rider
QUOTE (barney_rebel @ Jun 24 2005, 12:24 PM) "rebel without a conscience, martyr without a cause" Love it when Neil takes well known sayings and makes a pun out of it. I think it's neat too when he does that. My favorite twist on an old saying is "Let us not go gently to the endless winter night." There are so many good passages, it's hard to choose. But if you put a gun to my head my favorite would have to be: You can do a lot in a lifetime If you don't burn out too fast You can make the most of the distance First you need endurance First you've got to last
invisibleairwaves
A very, very hard decision, but in the end I'll go with Subdivisions: "Growing up it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided The future pre-decided Detached and subdivided In the mass production zone" I can relate. Guest Xourque
My high school year book quote is as follows: "Better the pride that resides In a citizen of the world Than the pride that divides When a colourful rag is unfirled" I chose that quote, because I graduated in 2002 which was not too far from 9/11. I was getting very sick of the fascist patriotic flag waving that was going on around then. Look at how divided we are as a country and world right now. Slacker
Madrigal When the dragons grow too mighty To slay with pen or sword I grow weary of the battle And the storm I walk toward When all around is madness And there's no safe port in view I long to turn my path homeward To stop awhile with you When life becomes so barren And as cold as winter skies There's a beacon in the darkness In a distant pair of eyes In vain to search for order In vain to search for truth But these things can still be given Your love has shown me proof This song always makes me feel better
Sark
We each pay a fabulous price, for our visions of paradise, but a spirit is a vision with a dream... with a mission! Also- We can walk our road together If our goals are all the same We can run alone and free, if we pursue a different aim Let the truth of love be lighted Let the love of truth shine clear Sensiblity, armed with sense and liberty, with the heart and mind united in a single, perfect sphere. drumbum
Well, you can stake that claim Good work is the key to good fortune Winners take that praise Losers seldom take that blame If they don't take that game And sometimes the winner takes nothing and... LerxstLady
QUOTE (still have made a choice @ Jun 24 2005, 01:27 PM) Do u think "and the meek shall inherit the earth" is directly fromt he bible, or do u think neil just made it up? I don't think most translations of the Bible use the "...and" before "the meek shall inherit the earth" - it's usually "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth". However, Neil was FAR from the first to use the "and the meek shall inherit the earth" phrasing. We were discussing this on another board and I did a bit of searching and found it in books, speeches and other such sources going back as far as the early 1900's before I finally gave up looking
LerxstLady
static on your frequency electrical storm in your veins raging at unreachable glory straining at invisible chains and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge staring down into a heartless sea can't face life on a razor's edge nothing's what you thought it would be All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers turn to look at the cars turn around and turn around and turn around Turn around and walk the razor's edge Don't turn your back And slam the door on me it's not as if this barricade blocks the only road it's not as if you're all alone in wanting to explode someone set a bad example made surrender seem all right the act of a noble warrior who lost the will to fight and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge staring down into a heartless sea done with life on a razor's edge nothing's what you thought it would be no hero in your tragedy no daring in your escape no salutes for your surrender nothing noble in your fate Christ, what have you done? (I leave out the first verse because I've been out of school for too long, but the rest applies). I first really listened to this song while I was in the hospital after a suicide attempt. I think it hit me harder than all the therapy they gave me while I was there - and while it's no "magic pill" by any stretch of the imagination, when I'm getting down that low, I can listen to it and it helps me remember that there ARE other options, if I'm willing to turn around and work my way back to them, sort of like a tap on the shoulder bringing you out of a daze. Once when I was feeling really low, I actually wrote a poem in "response" to the song. Thankfully I don't feel that way very often: Some days the pass is far too wide, the razor's edge too keen To turn around and face the fear of future fates unseen No more running, no more flight, the battle will begin Against a monster deep inside, the enemy within A weapon made of fear and rage to batter at the soul The fear of hope, a rage at fate begin to take control Then darker, darker spiral down, the way out is so far Even for the dreamer who has learned to steer by stars Other favourite Rush quotes: "Ignorance and prejudice and fear go hand in hand" - Witch Hunt "There is no love without pain" - Secret Touch "See how it sings like a sad heart, then joyously screams out its pain... sounds that build high like a mountain or notes that fall, gently, like rain" - 2112 "Discovery"

Jimbarnowl
Thank you. There's a strong sense of understanding that comes from reading and seeing that others get it. Not something that happens often.
