MusicalAbby2112 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Which song do you think is a better opening song? I say Spirit, But my Boyfriend says Subdivisions!
Snaked Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Subdivisions proved itself to be a killer opening song. Either way they can't go wrong. Both are excellent openers.
LittleRed Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 I became a Rush fan because of Subdivisions. I have all their albums and love all their music but that one song has a special place in my heart. Both my dd and I were thrilled when they opened with Subdivisions. Fitting, too, since it is the 30th anniversary of Signals.
J2112YYZ Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Spirit without a doubt. Subdivisions is a great tune and a good opener but it jus doesn't have the same level of energy or opening "pop" that Spirit does as the starter.
Merely Space Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Gotta go with Spirit. It's just such a driving song, and it so perfectly sums up what Rush are about musically. It also quite eloquently says "Hello! We're Rush, and we'll be blowing your mind for the rst of the evening!" (I may be biased because it opened the GUP tour, which was the first time I saw them live.)
WIDE-ANGLE WATCHER Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Easily....The Spirit of Radio.... More energy....an instant gratification song.
Territorial_Game Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Loved Subdivisions as an opener, but TSoR hits just a bit harder to start. That said, I like TSoR best as a closer because it's my favorite of the staples.
FountainOfSyrinx Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Spirit of Radio for sure. Â In El Paso last year.. Geddy opened with "Off on your way, hit the open road"Â I guess it's acceptable to have massive concentration lapse every once in a while. :)
savagegrace26 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Spirit is much better as a closer than an opener. It feels wasted when it's played too early. Subdivisions is recognizable and overplayed enough to work very well as an opener.
HalfwayToGone Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 that first guitar riff in TSOR is much better to open with IMO than the intro to Subdivisions, although SD does work as an opener.
TheWK90 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I like Subdivisions more than TSOR, but Spirit is probably the better opening song.
theprestobunnies Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I definitely prefer Spirit of Radio over Subdivisions due to the energy and vibe, but I also agree with the previous poster: I prefer it later in the set. My favorite opener, however, is without a doubt Limelight.
shail Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 some great openers would be: Red Lenses. Driven. Double Agent.Peaceable Kingdom. Oh so many
USB Connector Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 TSOR hands down is a better opener, but I think that they should move around openers and closers without having the same one two times in a row for a given tour. When Far Cry closed the first set it didn't have anywhere near the impact it did the two shows I saw during the TM Tour (it was still amazing, but it didn't have quite the same sense of finality). I would imagine the same would have happened with TSOR as an opener.
lemonheadbassist Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 i have to say i like both songs equally as much and they both provide a lot of energy but being the first rush show i saw them in (clockwork angels lame i know only 1 rush show!!) id have to say subdivisions!
ytserush Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 If they have to play them, I'd rather have Tom Sawyer and Limelight as openers....
Distant Signals Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Subdivisions hands down. That opening F# low bassy/synth sound is bad ass 1
Mystic Rythm Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Love both songs but I would have to say that for an opening song TSOR kicks the night of with high energy while subdivisions is a welcome slow down (still with a good pulse) at the end of the first set. + :burger: =
