Anybody else catch last nights show at Rexall Place?

I loved it! I am glad we lucked out getting setlist B and that they made the changes to the encore since the first dates. These guys are spot on like you wouldn't believe for guys their age. I thought Geddy sounded good, better than the Time Machine DVD. Mix was excellent. Venue was pretty much packed with only a handful of empty seats in the nosebleeds and that would make it their best attendent show, possibly ever, here.

It's not the setlist I would have picked but they could jam polly wolly doodle for 3 hours and they'd rock. The synth era stuff sounds great live. That with the great news tunes makes for a concert we'll never forget. The crowd was electric for SOR! My wife actually loved the show too, which says a lot. In fact she liked it way more than being front row at U2 360 tour.

Since you mentioned U2, I saw them live once...that was enough. new_thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I saw them once too. IMO they were "pretty good". Rush is much better live as your Mrs. found out last night. Glad you enjoyed and glad she got educated a bit and enjoyed as well.

A buddy of mine saw the show last night in Edmonton. It was his 39th Rush show and he said it was easily the best over-all show. Then, he said, "Well, either last night or the Moving Pictures concert in Toronto back in '81."

He also said the place was pretty much packed, accept for a handful of nose-bleeders. Said the strings added big time to the show.

I would say U2 live is great. Their a band I like, but certainly not on the same level. I can see how some of you guys get addicted and start going to a ton of shows. Last night would be my 3rd. That's pretty crazy that someone who's seen then 39 times would rate this show that high.

The show was amazing until Tom Sawyer. Everybody stood up except our section. I stood up and sang along to it and two guys behind me kept yelling at me to sit down. Then they threw a cup of beer at me. I turned around and flipped them the bird. Then security came up and escorted five people from that row out of the building.

Before the show waiting to get in there was a group of 13-16 year olds in front of me. One had the necromancer playing through the speakers on his iPod. They were all singing to it and from what I saw they knew every freakin word!! Kinda blew me away! Nice to see!! smile.gif

I'm a recent convert to Rush so I haven't seen them live yet but I'm amazed that their reputation is overshadowed (e.g. in the music press) by a band like U2 who let's face it haven't made made a truly great album since 1991.

Yeah, might just be my age or growing up with the band or whatever but it's a little strange and a lot cool that there's a whole new generation of Rush fans.

I was talking to one of the new photogs of our local high school band (his kid is a freshman, mine a senior). He was asking me about camera policy in the venue and we got on the topic of the last time he went to see Rush - it had been at least 20 years for him.

So I asked him what the motivation was to suddenly pick up tickets for opening night. He said: "my son practically begged me to take him".

Too cool.

Doesn't that usually happen to bands that get too big for their breeches??

All these young fans blow me away. There is hope for the world full of crap new music. I saw tons of people younger than me there. I'm just shy of 30 and I feel young there as it is. When I saw Rush for the first time 10 years ago I never thought I'd see them because they had never played Edmonton in my memory (and it had been 12 years since they had). After the show I heard one of these younger guys saying how f'ing amazing the show was and that he couldn't believe it, he never thought he'd ever see them. That WAS me 10 years ago and It hit me that these guys are STILL attracting a new audience. Amazing!

Indeedily dudily.

In retrospect, while there were plenty of hardcores rocking out to pretty much every song, alot of people sat for nearly the entire show(I stood up for bits, but mostly just kept to the edge of my seat and over the rails for the people behind me). I even heard of one guy who was listening to his headphones through the entire first set, seemingly half asleep. It wasn't until around YYZ and TSOR that pretty much everyone was standing and rocking out.
