I'm not going to be drinking or smoking anything when I see the boys. I want to enjoy every minute of it.

What that being said I am sure there will be a few of those loud, dumb, chubsters, that are on their like 35th Rush show and don't really care anymore, or they think Tom Sawyer is the greatest song EVER and that's the only reason they are there to see them.

I don't think you should be afraid to tell somebody to have some STFU if they are being an annoying pig. After all, you paid your hard earned money to listen to the band, not those guys.

One of the last concerts I went to, a loud drunk floozy in front of us was making it difficult for everybody around her to enjoy the show. We had no problem asking security to escort her out, which they did.

I always like to remind people politely that I am at a show to hear the band, not them. And then if that doesn't work I turn to them and offer to give them a free nose job... with my fist.

I like to see the reaction I get when a girl says that to them, seems to shut them up every time.

That part about a woman telling them is the truth. Twice last week(Rush in Indy and at a Reds game) my wife told somebody to STFU. The douchebag at the ball game was saying stuff my kid had no business hearing and the guy at Rush was falling all over the place, drunk and obnoxiously loud. Funny thing is, she had told me both times to keep quiet to avoid trouble, then cussed them out her self. Both of them shut up. The guy at the ball game even bought my kid an ice cream!

I just got done seeing my 16th show in Chicago. The last three shows I have been at I get the bone head RUSH fans who are white males in there 40s who have this great desire to drink as much alcohol before during and after the show. This time it was four of them with there stupid crew cuts, over weight, one of them had bottles of booze on him that he had to swing in between the beers. Oh then at the end one of them was hitting some weed them almost fell over. The twenty year old fans act better then these yahoos. Idiots!

Are you sure they weren't Neil's inner jerkle of security thugs?

Totally agree.

Smoking has been banned in venues, why can't the same be applied to alcohol?

Seriously, Does anybody NEED to get blind drunk to enjoy a concert and then ruin the whole thing by running to the bathroom every five minutes, falling all over the place, spilling drink over everybody throwing up, starting fights etc...

Why anybody would pay good money to behave like that is beyond me.

"It's a rock concert" state the brain dead drunks...

Well it's a performance for me. And as a sober money paying fan, I'd like to watch and listen to the concert without having to deal with a bunch of inbred alcoholics getting in the way.

The sooner alcohol is banned from venues the better.

I'm a white male 45 and got wasted at my first (Moving Pictures) Rush show. What I don't get is how anyone can still do that at this age now. It would take me a week to get over anything beyond a buzz. Yea it's a rock concert but really? You spend that kind of money to get stupid at a Rush show when you can do it for free in a million other places. Grow up and show some respect for the guys performing not to mention the people around you........ jusayun. dazed025.gif

I have never had a bad experience at a Rush concert regarding drunks. I've seen them 10 times thus far. I am taking my 7 year old only because I want him to experience Rush before they decide to retire. I am nervous that we will be sitting next to or close to someone whose drunk or smoking weed....not that I am against anyone indulging, but some people just don't know how to handle themselves. Luckily we have aisle seats.

In a world where a local beer company is sure to be a major corporate sponsor of any public sports or music venue you are not going to see it banned.

I like a beer or 2 at a show, I think the vast majority of people are capable of having 1 or 2 and not being a asshole.

At the Vapor Trails tour in Milwaulkee, I was seventh row on Alex's side and this complete drunken douchebag behind me would just not shut the f*ck up and kept tapping me on the shoulder to talk jibberish through most of the first set. Next thing I know, I feel something warm on my leg and low and behold he was full fledged pissing right then and there... on my leg

Took everything in my power not to clobber him, but I knew it get me thrown out, so I had to get security to toss him out.

It was a pathetic scene.

My worst experience was during the Time Machine tour last year when I was stuck in front of the exact people you described the whole time: middle-aged, obnoxious guys who were wasted before the show even began. But, they weren't screaming for any songs, no, they were screaming F*CKKKKK YOUUUU all night! Right behind me! Took security half the show to tell them to STFU, yet they were very quick to yell at me for using my camera phone during the first song angry.gif

I had no bad experiences during my last two shows though. In Columbus, I was behind a row of four guys who knew all the songs as well as I did. We were all singing very loudly and we were even air drumming the same fills! Everyone on the floor in Detroit was real cool too.

I try to be as polite as possible when at a show, which means I'll smoke a J and maybe have a single ridiculously overpriced beer. That way I'm not too crazy, but I'm still not quite all there in the head tongue.gif

Why would you even type this?

What do you know, or care, about Neil Pearts security?

Kinda creepy, dude.

ohmy.gif That's horrific. What a unbearable repulsive act, being at such a joyful occasion to have this loser do this. I really don't know how I would respond but I'm sure I couldn't stay even after I "sanitized" myself in the restroom. The night would be ruined and probably I would leave. Disgusting slob I also would've wanted pound his head into the pavement.

Same thing happened to me in the pit at the DC Maiden Somewhere Back in Time tour. The guy was blind drunk and actually peed twice! Set a bad tone and almost ruined the entire experiences. asshole.

The stories here highlight why marijuana is a superior drug to alcohol. No one ever said "instant asshole, just add weed" but substitute that with alcohol and it's true for about 25% of the population.

Oh and btw, I haven't smoked for the better part of the last 10 years and this is my personal opinion.

My other comment is this: why on earth would you spend $150 for a concert ticket and then get so wasted you have trouble remembering any of it? I refused to do that when I was paying $5 for a show in the mid-70s. I go to a concert to see a band play their music live. Sure, it's a party. I get it. But it's a party with a professional band, not the garage band down the street. Pay attention cuz you might just be transported to a better place.

This is why I don't drink before a show and also why I'm very selective with who I go with. I won't be a part of a group that ruins someone elses experience.

It's a rock concert, a few rotten apples in the bunch are to be expected. Don't let them spoil your time.

But STILL...I will say it isn't pleasant to be surrounded by inebriated, borderline belligerent mid-40s douchebags screaming, "PLAY RED BARCHETTTTTAA!!!" during most of the first set. banghead.gif

So when you hit your mid 40's you'll also be a douche? By your own account, sounds like it. If not already.

i was sitting a few rows behind "that guy" in DC. he was pounding beers the whole show. at first he seemed to just be really excited. but pretty soon he was screaming the lyrics of every song, fist-pumping, punching the air, violently hugging his buddy he was sitting next to (that guy looked mortified). as the concert went on, any time someone around him asked him to cool it, he got super aggro. on his way back from the Nth beer run, he got into it with a guy at the end of his row. later on, he almost threw hands with the guy sitting in front of me who'd had enough of his B.S. one older guy went over and complained to security during the intermission, but they didn't do squat. fortunately, i was wearing ear plugs, which did a fantastic job of blocking out the extraneous noise directly around me and let me actually hear the show.

I feel fortunate that I seem to have gotten the "Big Bang Theory" guys near me-usually a group of three or four well behaved 30-somethings whose sole reason for being there is to watch the music(or we're all just too cheap to pay for $10 for a drink).

Ironically, the two most problematic shows for the wife and I were at the concerts you'd expect to be mellow-The Eagles and Simon and Garfunkel. At the Eagles, there were four 20-somethings about three rows in front of us getting drunk and obnoxious. When they spilled a beer on the person behind them, the usher actually escorted them away. One of the girls in the bunch told us she didn't care about the Eagles anyway and got the tix for free.

At Simon and Garfunkel turns out we were in the seats just below the premium boxes. In the box above us were a bunch of obnoxious, wasted 20-somethings. They were loud and didn't care about the music. When a person near us asked them to quiet down, they told the person to shut up. The problem was who was in the private box. It was(or so we were told) part of the family of Michael Eisner, the head of Disney studios at the time(rumor was it was his 20-something son) and friends. Disney owned the venue(then called the The Pond in Anaheim, CA). The usher was alerted by many people but basically admitted because of who it was, she couldn't kick them out. Horrible. I think the only reason they didn't ruin the entire show was a couple of the girls fell asleep or passed out during the show. It got quiet after that.
