Thunder Bay Rush Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) I'm a frost-bitten Canadian boy so naturally, I love hockey. I played right up until Junior B. Many mornings my mom and dad got their asses out of bed to take me and my brother to minor hockey at 6 am at the local rink. BUT - I am sick and tired of these rich and spoiled players and owners bitching over money. Even below average players are making millions of dollars these days. So, with a lockout almost a guarantee, they can all kiss my ass. As far as I'm concerned my NHL watching days are over. I'd rather watch baseball... even if it's the world's most boring game. (Uh oh, I hear footsteps approaching the Canadian - US border!) Edited September 14, 2012 by Thunder Bay Rush

(Uh oh, I hear footsteps approaching the Canadian - US border!) You don't remember when there was a baseball lockout with three quarters of the season played? The Montreal Expos were by far the best team in the league at that time and looked like they would probably win the World Series that year. I use to avidly follow baseball up until then. I never watched another game after that.

invisibleairwaves Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 No need to resort to anything as unreasonable and cruelly masochistic as watching baseball. Lots of good hockey going on at the junior level, the NCAA, and the AHL. Heck, if you really want to stick it to the NHL's greedy owners, you could start watching KHL games.

If the KHL doesn't have the constant lockouts by the owners, and they can make millions... why wouldn't the "local" talent stay home and play? And if the owners keep doing this crap... who's to say more US and Canadians don't leave for the "greener pastures" of the KHL? And personally, I wouldn't blame the players for leaving. Good thing I live in Minnesota where we still have NCAA hockey and great high school hockey to watch
Lerxster Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Yup yup yup, asshat Buttman can't wait for the lockout. And all the owners fall in line. f**k Buttman, you former basketball lawyer dick. You shut down the NHL in 04 to "fix" the finances. Obviously you f***ing failed, you miserable creep. You should be fired. That's right, keep f***ing the fans in the ass, Buttman. Given enough chances, you'll ruin this league. And the owners just fall in line. The NHL needs me. I don't need the NHL. Hey, there's a great sushi place in Montreal ya'll should try.. Fukyu!!!
Thunder Bay Rush Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 Good point Lerxster... by the way, you sound just a tad pissed off...

Oops, did I forget the smiley face on my post? Yea, I'm pissed. I could have gone Sherman Potter with "crock of beans", "mule fritters" and "buffalo bagels" but it wouldn't convey it in print. Buttman's full of monkey muffins! Nah.

Bettman works for them; he's their mouthpiece and lightning rod, not their leader. You could argue that he should've done a better job of managing their expectations, but ultimately he's not the one driving the bus. Everything else is bang on though. This isn't 2004, when revenues were dropping because of a crappy on-ice product and players were earning over 70% of that revenue. They fixed the system, didn't they? Why are we going through this crap? Just so a bunch of billionaire owners can squeeze a little more cash out of an already profitable system?

Imagine if NHL hockey resumed in December or next year or whenever, and Malkin or Ovechkin or Kovalchuck were MIA. That might finally scare some sense into the league.

I wrote "falling in line" cause Buttman talked about how there was an ownership vote on basically how he's handling this, and they're all behind him- unanimous. If any one owner has reservations, then they've fallen in line. Any owner that did have reservations has fallen into goose-step line for the sake of unity. And exactly.. they fixed the system in '05 didn't they? But noooooo.. Buttman has to be a hard-ass alpha male about this: Negotiate from our current offer or after the deadline the next offer will make our current offer look like a sweetheart deal. All this blustering horse pucky is pissing me off. Sufferin' sheep dip, it was "supposedly" fixed.. this should be tweeking, not this start from scratch!
g under p Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Guess what NHL you play with fire and you know what you get burned. If this lockout follows through you WILL get burned BADLY. Just when the league has built up some momentum...this will certainly suck.

Since we're going to watch hockey on channel 768 when this is over, why don't they put all the games on Pay-Per-View and then split the money.

Why are we going through this crap? Just so a bunch of billionaire owners can squeeze a little more cash out of an already profitable system? why are we dealing with this again? Because the owners expect the players to police them and the GMs. They got almost everything they wanted the last time, and because they couldn't stick to their plan (started going around the cap by front loading deals... sign players till they are 40 years after they've died, etc.) Normally I try to be a bit more "middle" when it comes to these things... but sorry, I'm blaming the owners 100%

invisibleairwaves Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Darren Dreger says the NHLPA and Hockey Canada are talking about doing a Canada/Russia series in the absence of NHL hockey. That'll be all kinds of fun if it happens.
invisibleairwaves Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 (edited) A nice tidbit from the Capgeek.com twitter account: since NHL owners were so hard done by under the current CBA, they were only able to commit to over $1.5 billion in new contracts between July 1st and today. invisibleairwaves Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 It's now midnight, Eastern time, which means the old CBA has expired and the lockout is officially on.
