I think people hate it so much because it is usually said with such cynicism and snarkiness. I think Geddy nails it pretty well and it is redeemed by the follow up, "It is what it is and forever".

I don't hear "it is what it is" nearly as much anymore now that my old boss has been relocated. wink.gif He would always use that phrase in a cynical "that's just how it is and I ain't gonna do nothin' about it" way.

 

I think Neil used these two trite sayings together like that to make a point of sorts, but it still makes me cringe. wink.gif
