This is a tough one. I know 2112 is the epic and is a classic, but I'm going to give a slight edge to A Farewell to Kings, which is an incredible and somewhat underrated song. Hemispheres is also a seriously close contender, but just barely misses out.

I would love to give it to Clockwork Angels, which is a modern-day classic for sure, but it can't match those other 3, at least not quite.

I went CA....yes i went with CA.

Mick

Did you by any chance go with CA? confused13.gif

Seriously though, great track, but it can't quite compete with those mid to late 70's tracks. It really is the difference, however, between the song CA being a 10, but the others are more like 12, 13, 14, etc... out of 10... wink.gif

Fly By Night is my personal favorite, so that's how I'm voting, but 2112, Hemispheres, and A Farewell to Kings are all very strong tracks. I currently have the bunch ranked like this:

Fly By Night

2112

Hemispheres

A Farewell to Kings

Vapor Trail

Roll the Bones

Presto

Test for Echo

Clockwork Angels

Wow, I can't believe someone voted for Presto! unsure.gif

My order with gaps where an order of magnitude decrease in quality occurs:

1. A Farewell to Kings

2. 2112

3. Hemispheres

4. Clockwork Angels (still 10/10 - the other 3 are just MORE perfect)

5. Fly By Night

6. Test For Echo

7. Presto

8. Roll the Bones

9. Vapor Trail

Really torn between Hemispheres and 2112. Both are just so wonderful. I think I may like Hemispheres slightly better, but 2112 is a few minutes longer and thus even more awesomeness.

I really want two votes.

Heads - 2112

Tails - Hemispheres

coin ended up tails.

A Farewell To Kings rules as well. To me, there are only 3 logical choices.

Test For Echo. It's a dense, complex piece with a heavy, modern Rush edge that still holds up musically (lyrically I'll admit it's dated at this point).

I realize it's a matter of personal preference, but if T4E is your first choice, it would be interesting to see how you rank the others.

my choices as well. I decided on Hemispheres, but barely over 2112.

This is almost exactly how I'd rank them (though with 2112/Hemi as 1-2, and AFTK as 3).

Went with 2112.

Is "Hemispheres" a title track? The name of the album is "Hemispheres" but the name of the song is "Cygnus X-1, Book Two: Hemispheres". Wouldn't the album have to have that same title for it to (technically) be a title track?

Not that it matters or that I would have let that stop me from voting for it. I just like "2112" that little bit more.

How many realize (or remember) that "Cygnus X-1" on "A Farewell To Kings" is actually titled, "Cygnus X-1, Book One: The Voyage"?
