Ooh, nice.

I'm actually disappointed. None of the tracks match anything from Achtung Baby, which at its worst is better than Zooropa's best, IMO. I heard only a couple moments of musical incandescence, the kind of "yeah" moments where everything coalesces into sheer aural brilliance (the climax of "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" and the "Sara" [Fleetwood Mac]-esque vocal melodies building behind Johnny Cash's voice at a certain moment on "The Wanderer"), whereas much of the rest of U2's catalogue is positively littered with them (I think almost every song on Achtung Baby has at least one of these).

That being said, the album was worth the $5 I paid for it thanks to "Lemon", "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)", "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car", and "The Wanderer". The title track, "Numb", and "Dirty Day" are decent as well.

Zooropa takes a while to get into. It's sort of like U2's Adore if you're familiar with the Smashing Pumpkins at all.

Keep trying.

Seconded. One of my all-time favorites smile.gif

Gentlemen Take Polaroids is even better than I was expecting! David Sylvian has a very weird voice, but it's definitely a grower of one, and Barbieri on keys and Jensen on drums provide an awesome combo of a driving instrumental section, rounded out by the rest of the band. Definitely gained a whole new respect for Richard Barbieri in particular; "Burning Bridges", "Methods of Dance", "The Width of a Room", and particularly "Taking Islands in Africa" demonstrate a level of innovation and proficiency that I would usually associate with the likes of Tony Banks, Rick Wright, and Keith Emerson.

I'm thinking of getting Abacab. Kudzu seems to be the 'Genesis Man'. Anything good about this record?

The title track, "Keep It Dark", and "Man on the Corner" are all essential Genesis tunes. "No Reply At All" and "Me and Sarah Jane" are also pretty solid tracks. "Whodunit?" is by far the most annoying song the band ever recorded (beating out "Colony of the Slippermen" and "Illegal Alien", even), but that's why the skip button was invented. Overall, a good record.

"Colony of the Slippermen"

Dude, Colony of Slippermen is awesome! Love the keyboard solo! 1022.gif

As far as Abacab goes, here's how I rate each track out of 10 stars:

Abacab: 10

No Reply At All: 9

Me and Sarah Jane: 10

Keep It Dark: 9

Dodo/Lurker: 10

Whodunnit: 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif no.gif new_thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Man On The Corner: 6

Like It Or Not: 10

Another Record: 8

Not a bad record at all... I think it's the first album that's pretty much fully in the pop spotlight, but they still had some artistic Genesis magic left. smile.gif

I absolutely love "skufs." That's this thing a store in Portland I go to called Everyday Music does. They buy all used CDs, regardless of condition, and the ones they think are scratched they sell for 2 or 3 bucks each. However, I've bought tons of these "skuf" CDs and none of them have ever given me problems. It's usually just a case of a little crack on the jewel case or something.

I bought the following, and spent $20:

Tori Amos - From the Choirgirl Hotel

Bjork - Debut

The Cure - Pornography

Digable Planets - Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space)

OutKast - Aquemini

Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot

Kanye West - Late Registation

Yeah my store does the same. Just picked up a copy of The Fragile from NIN for 2 bucks. Perfectly fine by my standards!

Recently picked up...

Fear Falls Burning/Nadja - Self Titled

No-Man - Together We're Stranger (SE)

David Sylvian - Blemish

IEM - 1996-1999 (2LP) [50$, holy F*CK]
